LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK WITH NDHS
During the week of November 29-December 5, the National Dance Honor Society (NDHS) celebrated Love Your Body Week in an effort to promote self-love regardless of beauty expectations. Mrs. Rodriguez, the NDHS advisor, says, “Love Your Body Week was about raising awareness of body image concerns and promoting body confidence. Dance Honor Society decided to focus on this due to the relation with dancers and body image.” Members of the National Dance Honor Society designed self-affirmation posters with phrases like “I accept myself” and “love yourself” to post on the mirrors in the girls' bathrooms. Mrs. Rodriguez states, “We thought this was a great way to boost self-confidence and put a smile on everyone's face when they looked in the mirror." In addition to posters, a virtual presentation was showcased in the cafeteria with messages about body positivity. In all of the dance elective classes, Mrs. Rodriguez encouraged positive body image by having everyone write their favorite part about their body on a post-it note. They then placed all of the notes in the shape of a heart on the dance room mirror. NDHS also hosted an afterschool pilates class on Thursday, December 2, open to any Riviera student who paid $10. “We chose pilates because exercise is a great form of self-love. It's important that we love and value ourselves, and a regular exercise program is one of the best gifts of self-love that we can give,” says Mrs. Rodriguez. After a successful class, they were able to raise a total of $300 for the National Eating Disorder Association. The hard work and dedication of Mrs. Rodriguez and the National Dance Honor Society led to a successful outcome, and they look forward to continuing to promote body positivity!

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Romero
Ms. Romero has been a part of the Riviera family for 4 years! Despite not being here for very long she is the Science National Honor Society moderator, and teaches all chemistry levels, including Advanced Placement Chemistry. In her honors and college preparatory chemistry classes there is a famous S’mores lab which students look forward to every year! This entails stoichiometry and all of the students having a delicious snack! Her favorite memory is teaching kinetics each year when her students eat the test! She loves collecting surrender flags because it is a tradition amongst her students.
