STAR PARENTS NEWSLETTER
November 2021
November is Family Engagement Month
Each November, the Bibb County School District celebrates parents and your important involvment in the life of your child. We would like to thank all of our Union Elementary parents who are consistently engaged with the growth of your children. We love our Union Star Parents!
Anti-Bullying Week
Anti-Bullying (Oct. 4th-8th) week is a time to raise awareness of bullying of children in schools, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. Our Union Stars were taught how to be kind to one another and treat each other with respect.

Parents Are Influential In Reading Levels
Five Strategies to Help Improve Students’ Reading Levels
1. Read all the time.
The more students read, the more likely they will see their reading levels go up. Make reading something the student does as often as possible.
2. Read out loud.
Students who struggle with reading may benefit from hearing others read. In addition to reading to students, give them the opportunity to read out loud.
3. Read it again.
Re-reading the same sections over again can help a student become more comfortable with his or her reading abilities and help them become more familiar with key vocabulary words.
4. Talk about reading.
Simply asking a child what they thought about a book or to share their favorite part of a book can be truly beneficial.
5. Find the right book.
Sometimes a student’s biggest problem when it comes to reading is that reading simply isn’t fun. In other words, if your student says reading is boring, they may just need a new book.

Don't Be Late; You'll Miss Something Great!
Breakfast is served each day from 7:50am-8:15am and students are considered tardy after 8:20 am.
All Union students who have PERFECT ATTENDANCE each month will be recognized with a special treat.
Where's Your Mask?
PLEASE ensure that your child has a mask to wear each day upon arrival to Union Elementary. The school does not have extra masks to provide to each child daily. Thank you for assisting us in this effort!
