Room 103 Newsletter
10/14/15
I hope you had a fun three day weekend. Just as a reminder, I will be out of the classroom this Thursday, Friday, and next Monday. My sub is Emma Styles (I think she goes by Ms. Emma). She's got all the plans and is excited to spend a few days in kindergarten. The book bags should still come back this Friday, and I will get new books in them and send them home next Tuesday. Monday Morning Reading will be happening this coming Monday. I've prepared some Fall themed books for you to read to the kids, so I hope you can make it.
Ms. Emma will be leading our class on the Walk-A-Thon (10/16). Our class is scheduled to start walking at 8:30 and it usually takes us about a hour to complete all 10 laps. Please make sure your child is wearing comfortable shoes (tennis shoes works best), clothes (light and loose), and sunscreen if they need it. Ms. Emma can collect your pledge sheets, but please hold off on turning money in until I'm back. You're all welcome to join the class during the Walk-A-Thon if you have some free time, and want to get your exercise in!
Over the past couple of weeks the kids have been working on making Japanese Noh masks. We've all completed them and they are finally up in the hallway. The kids first had to pick their mask design, then color them in with marker, fold the mask so it would pop off the background paper, and last they cut the eyes, noes, and mouth. Come and check them out next time you're at school.
We've scheduled our first field trip! On December 1st we will be taking BART into San Francisco to go to the Children's Creativity Museum for an Aerial Innovations activity. I'm sending permission slips home in the communication folders today. Please get them back to me as soon as possible, so I can pay the museum. I hope some of you can join us on the trip.
Other field trips are in the works, however, with the growing number of students in the district, many of our traditional field trips aren't able to accommodate all four Jefferson K classes. If you have an idea or a connection for a Kindergarten appropriate field trip, I'd love to hear about it.
Don't forget to sign up for our class potluck on Oct. 22nd. The sign up sheet is on our classroom bulletin board.
See you all soon,
Miss Siobhan
*There are also some playground guidelines in the communication folder that we are asking families to review with their child, sign, and return.
Thank you!
