ONE MORE WEEK! Your Feedback is Important
We need your feedback! The annual Georgia Parent Survey closes Friday, March 1. Click below for the survey or copy and paste the link into your browser: http://gshs.gadoe.org/parents
The data collected from the survey will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating which is an indicator in our academic accountability system, the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). More importantly, it helps us to make decisions that positively impact your child's school experience at Big Creek.
You may complete the survey using your personal computer, smartphone or tablet. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.

A Recess Note from Nurse G - Please Read
Your child’s health and safety is very important to us at Big Creek. The CDC and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta both encourage outside recess as a part of their health promotion and increased classroom concentration. Weather permitting, each class goes outside for 30 minutes of recess daily.
Your child has a chronic condition that would prevent them from participating in their usual class routine a physician’s note will be needed. When a physician’s note is received, stating a child may not participate in outdoor activities, please be mindful that would also include Field Day or any other outdoor class activities.
The form to be completed by your physician can be found on the Big Creek Elementary Web Page. Click on School Nurse under the Student Services Tab, then on the left hand side, click Health Forms. The needed form is titled Individualized Health Care Plan. Once the form is completed by you and your child’s physician, please send it in with your student.
I appreciate you taking your time to help me be able to give great care to your child. I look forward to seeing your student continue to thrive this year. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Nurse G
This Month on our Voyage Journey!
Around Our Community
2019 Georgia Public Broadcasting PBS KIDS Writers Contest
Now open until March 29 for K-3 students in Georgia
It's time to sharpen those pencils! GPB invites Georgia students in kindergarten through third grade to create a great story, illustrate it, and enter it in our PBS KIDS Writers Contest.
The deadline for submissions is March 29, 2019.
Stories can be fact or fiction, poetry or prose, and will be judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling, and integration of illustrations. A first, second, and third place will be chosen from each grade level. Additionally, four stories (one from each grade level) will be selected for the STEAM Award if their story effectively incorporates science, technology, engineering, arts, and/or mathematics.

Omega Learning Keeps Close Relationship with BCES
Located just a half mile south of Big Creek Elementary, you’ll find Omega Learning, one of Big Creek’s most active Partners in Education.
Omega provides K-12 tutoring of all subjects at its SACS Accredited Center, just 1/2 mile away on 141 and Mathis Airport Drive. Additionally, they offer different specials throughout the year to their partner schools, including Big Creek.
Omega Learning prides itself on being a very involved Partner in Education with all south Forsyth area schools, including Big Creek. “We are committed to supporting our community,” said Ms. Albright. “We have sponsored reading contests, spelling bees, geography bees, oratorical contests, Teacher of the Month and Year, teacher breakfasts, sports teams and even celebrated our county school bus drivers.”
Ms. Albright knows that school partnerships are beneficial for both schools and business alike. “I make sure to keep current on district and school goals so we can support the students in a cohesive way,” she said.
Omega has been at this location for 5 years. During that time, Ms. Albright has enjoyed spending time in the schools, getting to know the teachers and administrators, and of course seeing Omega students at school events.
“I really value my partnerships that allows Omega to participate in school events, meet families, and promote their business in a fun, relaxed environment,” she said. “Big Creek has such a warm, caring environment for their students, and I love being part of that.”
