Hello, Mustangs!
Woohoo!! What an exciting week as Midway Elementary was recognized as one of America's Healthiest Schools! We received the Bronze Level and joined 461 schools across the United States in this recognition. Many thanks to PE Teacher Laura Gates and our Health and Wellness Committee for leading this challenge! Thank you to our classroom teachers for adding movement to the instructional day and to our student leaders for creating our school Tabata workouts! TRUE teamwork!! Go, Mustangs!
What a wonderful night we had at Salsarita's! You need to know that the whole crew at Salsarita's asked me to tell you thank you for your wonderful support!! We truly "took them by storm" for a good three hours!! What fun we had! The food was great!! Thank you all for sharing your dinner time with us!
While this has been an exciting week, next week is going to "rock n' roll" with action! Yes! We have three BIG events this week!
- We have our wonderful week for the Book Fair with three mornings for Grits for Grands and one evening for Family Night at the Book Fair. Love this opportunity to get new books!
- It is Bring Your Parent to PE Week! Parents, you get to put on those tennis shoes and get sweaty with your child! Truly a fun time!
- This is our Fall Box Tops for Education Week. It is a win-win. You have already purchased the product so just clip the BoxTop Coupon and send to school. PTO will package and collect the free money!!!
Again, thank you for support! Our Midway family is awesome because of YOU!! We make a shining team of Mustangs!!

Celebrating Dot Day!
Making dots, wearing dots, Mustangs celebrate Dot Day!
This is a day based on the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds and it helps promotes creativity, bravery, and self expression. We will explore ways to make our mark, set new goals, and try new things.
Book buddies in Lloyd and Wood's classes work to make dots transform into something bigger.

Guidance:
We Are So Excited
to
Have Male Mentors
We have a group of men that are willing to come once a week and read, help with projects, throw the football, shoot hoops, have lunch, play board games, etc. with our male students. Several of these programs exist throughout the district and other neighboring districts and are very successful.
If you are interested complete the information below and return to school. For more information you can contact Mrs. Gray, one of our school counselors. We are excited and can’t wait to watch these amazing relationships form.

Thank You Mustangs for your donations to Relay for Life!
Another Great PTO Restaurant Night at Salsarita's!
From Your Midway PTO
Dear Midway Families,
We want to thank you for all you do to support MES. We know we ask a lot of you – both time and money. But we cannot continue to make improvements to the school like the upcoming shade structures or the student garden or provide teachers with grants or provide funds for professional support, field trips, school supplies, staff appreciation events, and much more without your support.
This year alone we have budgeted:
· $14,200 for Field Trips
· $12,500 in Professional Support (teacher development, training, etc.)
· $15,000 in Teacher Grants (supplies and classroom materials, etc.)
· $6,100 in Teacher/Staff Appreciation
· AND MUCH MORE (our operating budget is $105K)!!
As our family has expanded to include more students and teachers, the PTO’s budget has continued to increase. We are also trying to quickly raise funds for another large capital project; a new digital sign for the front of the school.
We heard you Midway! Last year, we received many positive and thankful notes for a direct monetary donation fundraiser. By having a direct donation fundraiser, 100% of the proceeds STAY at Midway, NO WORK is required from you, and your donation is TAX-DEDUCTIBLE!
In addition, the PTO is attempting to scale back on fundraisers by eliminating the Silent Auction this year. However, to remain transparent, this will be the primary FALL fundraiser. Boosterthon will continue to be our primary SPRING fundraiser this year. With fewer large-scale fundraisers, we know we are helping parents, but we also risk being unable to meet our current financial commitments plus raise money for the new digital sign, so we encourage you to consider this when giving. Based on historical profits from past fall fundraisers plus the silent auction, our goal is to raise $25,000 which is a little over 20% of our total 2018-2019 operating budget.
We hope this fundraising method makes life easier this fall which is such a busy time for everyone. As always, thank you for your generosity and help in supporting Midway and the PTO.
Best Regards,
The Midway Elementary PTO
