School Counselors: All in for all students
Judson ISD supports National School Counseling Week. National School Counseling Week 2020 (#NSCW21) is Feb. 1-5, 2021. The week, presented by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Take a moment to thank your school counselor(s).
Judson ISD campuses have found many ways to show their appreciation to their campus counselors. We want to send a special thank you to all our counselors for your hard work and for supporting our students.

Judson ISD Receives EpiPen Grant for all Schools
Through a partnership between Mylan and BioRidge Pharma, the program makes it possible for qualifying schools to receive four free EpiPen® Auto-Injectors at no cost. Anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction, can develop and progress quickly, especially among children and adolescents. Epipens can be lifesaving in these situations. Judson ISD is a proud recipient of this grant which provides a sense of safety and a way to quickly assist if a severe allergic reaction occurs.
As the marketer and distributor of EpiPen® Auto-Injector, Mylan is committed to improving access to this important treatment through this grant program. Head Nurse Ursula Campbell, who leads many successful health initiatives for the district, stated, "Thankfully, we were able to receive 32 adult and 32 junior EpiPen kits. The cost of these kits is $456.00 a box. The grant helped save over $29,000 for our district." We are fortunate to receive this valuable resource at no cost and appreciate our nurses' work to keep our students and staff healthy.

Black History Month
Black History Month recognizes and celebrates the contributions of African Americans to our society. Judson ISD campuses showcase those contributions in several ways. As recently as June 2020, our JISD school board adopted a resolution on social justice where all three comprehensive high schools now offer an African American Studies course. A committee adopted a textbook, which aligns with the TEKS, to support the teachers who teach this course. The textbook chosen by the committee was The African American Odyssey, from Pearson publishers. Students and teachers are excited about this learning opportunity, and we look forward to continuing to provide it for our JISD students.
Judson ISD honors and respects the Black culture history has to offer. We continue to celebrate the entire month in many different ways.
CTE Month
Career and technical education (CTE) directly prepares students for high-wage, high-demand jobs. CTE covers many different fields, including health care, information technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management, and much more. CTE encompasses different types of education, from classroom learning to certification programs to work-based learning opportunities outside the classroom.
Career and Technical Education Month, or CTE Month, is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
Our students at Judson ISD are offered various courses through a comprehensive study of one of the 16 career concentrations identified and approved by the Texas Education Agency.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications: It Still Matters
The Judson ISD Child Nutrition Department wants you to know that even though all meals are at no cost to students through the end of 2020, the Free/Reduced Price Meal applications are still critical…to you and your student because it’s about more than just food.
Did you know that this application also...
- Can provide discounted fees to register for AP tests (from $64 to $18)
- Help pay fees to participate in sports
- Can reduce costs of college applications (discounted or even no cost)
- Help you qualify for low-cost internet service
- Has a bearing on funding for school programs and services for students
The no-cost meal program will, at some point, end, and we want to make sure that your child gets a nutritious meal without financial roadblocks. See if you qualify. Or, you can get going by filling out the Free/Reduced Meal application now.
These applications are accepted all year, but the sooner you apply, the sooner you benefit from meals and discounts.
*Note: If your child attends a CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) designated school, you do not need to submit this application.
