Birthday Book Club
Hello from the Silver Springs Library. Are you interested in supporting our library by purchasing a birthday book for your student?
By donating $18, new books will be purchased for our library. During the student’s birthday month, an email will be sent to you (K thru 2) or your student (3 thru 5), containing a list of books to choose from. A sticker thanking you for your donation and recognizing your student's birthday will be placed in the book, the book will be checked out to your student and delivered to their classroom teacher.
For virtual students, the book will be delivered to your student’s teacher to be picked up the next time they distribute materials.
To sign up for the Birthday Book Club, please click on the following link: https://northvilleschools.revtrak.net/elementary-schools/#/v/2020-2021-silver-springs-birthday-book-club
Please note a 3.5% service fee will be applied.

NWEA MAP continues this week.
Your child’s teacher will be sharing his/her NWEA MAP schedule with you soon. Over the next three weeks all of our students will be taking two NWEA MAP tests, one for reading and one for math. Here is a little information to help you and your child/ren have a successful experience with NWEA MAP this fall.
This District Video will give you an overview of NWEA and how it will work this fall. Please watch to get answers to your questions: NPS and NWEA Fall 2020
Face 2 Face Students
Students who are Face 2 Face students will be testing in person as they return to in person learning over the next few weeks. If your child/ren has been using a District-provided device, he/she should bring it to school on the day of testing. Your child/ren is also welcome to bring and use their own device for testing. iPads are not recommended for K-1.
As per the communication from your child’s teacher prior to bringing a personal device to school you and your child should complete a Device Readiness Check to ensure that the device will work properly during testing. The whole process should only take about 5 minutes. Click the Device Reading Check link and it will take you step by step through the process. Face 2 Face students who are using a district chromebook as their personal device, do not need to perform a readiness check. (Please note, that if for any reason your child’s personal device does not work properly on the day of testing, a sanitized district chromebook will be provided during the testing period.)
Virtual Students
Our students who will be taking the NWEA MAP on-line at home, whether they are using a personal device or a district chromebook must complete a Device Readiness Check. Your child’s teacher may have already communicated with you about this and may even have plans to do a test run as a class, so please check recent communications from your child’s teacher. If at any time during the testing session, you experience connectivity issues or run into issues with the Device Readiness Check, please reach out to the NPS Help Desk @ 248-344-3680

A Note from the PTA - Invest in Your Child
The Silver Springs PTA is looking forward to supporting our students and staff in this unprecedented year! To fund school activities and functions, we need your family to make a generous donation to support our Silver Springs PTA. This is our main source of fundraising for the entire year so please give what you can. You do not need to be a PTA member to make a donation. 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes directly back to our students and Silver Springs.
The Invest In Your Child fundraising campaign supports many of the programs that make Silver Springs a great place to learn and grow, and come together as a community.
A few of the events/activities /learning tools your Silver Springs PTA provides are:
Daddy Daughter Dance, Fun Fair, Breakfast With A Buddy
Learning Resources like IXL for all students
Science Fair and Reflections
Roller Skating Nights
Yearbook
Assemblies (JES), Science Alive and March Is Reading Month
Teacher Allocations for classroom use
Hospitality and Teacher Appreciation Week
In order for all these activities/events to continue, we need our families to help.
Your generous support of the Silver Springs PTA is greatly appreciated.
Your donation benefits your child and our school!
This is a FUSS FREE way to support the PTA!
Thank you for making a difference.

Leader in Me - Habit 1: Be Proactive
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.
Great Books for Habit #1- Be Proactive
- The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds
- Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
- Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
- The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper
- Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman
- Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy
