Principal's Message

Dear Harvey Green Community,

During the month of November, Ms. Huang, our amazing school counselor, visited classrooms and talked about gratitude. Students took turns sharing things that they are grateful for. I had the opportunity to listen in to one intermediate classroom share their thoughts and it really warmed my heart. I would like to share my gratitude with you all. I appreciate each member of the Harvey Green Community, both families and staff, for their support and dedication to our students. I am blessed to be the Principal at the most caring, loving, and supportive school in Fremont.

Thank you to all the families who attended Parent Teacher Conferences. If you missed your conference, please contact your teacher by email to follow up with any questions or concerns you may have.

Student Council is running a See's Candy Fundraiser that ends this week, more information can be found below. Also, on December 17th, PTA is hosting a Family Fun Night on Zoom! Please see the flyer in the PTA corner for more information. We hope you can join us!

I'd also like to remind you that if your student is sick with any of the listed symptoms on the flow chart please follow the directions listed on number 1. Please email the attendance clerk vluna@fusdk12.net in the front office or call the front office.

Thank you again for your support. If there is anything we can do to help support your child(ren) or family, please feel free to reach out at any time.

Thank you,

Ms. Johnson

GATE Information

Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. We believe that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students.

In February of 2020, funding for the CogAT testing was cut as part of the budget savings. While the CogAT testing has been the primary means of qualifying students for GATE identification we are now in the process of identifying an alternative way of identifying students. There will not be a test for GATE eligibility given this year. We are currently revising the GATE identification process and handbook FUSD will have an update by Spring 2022.

During the 2021/2022 school year we will continue to identify 5th and 6th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 11, 2021. Principals will set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification. In June 2022, parents, teachers, and students who applied for professional judgement will be informed of their child’s GATE eligibility.

Counselor's Corner

Hello Harvey Green families,

We are on our last stretch before welcoming the new year. As we reflect on this year of 2021, there's been challenges and also new accomplishments. I'm so proud of our Green community thus far! The new year will be even better! This month, I will be visiting classrooms to talk more about feelings and tools to regulate emotions so students learn to respond rather than react. Have you ever reacted in a situation based on your emotions and later on, reflect back and think "that was not the best way to respond" or "I wish I didn't say/do that?" It is hard to not act on emotions; sometimes our brains are quick to react. Teaching our students a variety of strategies would provide them a toolbox of tricks to use when they experience big emotions.

The end of the year can bring a mix of emotions. If there's anything I can do to support, please don't hesitate to reach out via email at dhuang1@fusdk12.net or call (510) 656-6438 ext. 41255.

Warmest regards,

Ms. Huang
