CAREER EXPLORATION THROUGH READING!

CAREER EXPLORATION

Beginning in kindergarten and through 12th grade, students are learning about professions and career options during their daily lessons. Whether they are reading about environmental scientists, crafting structures like an architect, experimenting with colors like an artist, or solving problems like an engineer, they are building both skills and knowledge used by working professionals. We are excited to highlight out Pine Run Students this year as they learn and grow through Career Exploration!

As students explore careers, jobs, and occupations, Dr. Mumford read the book Blue Broccoli and Nanobots to fifth and sixth grade students. Each classroom received their own copy, enclosed with a note written by Dr. Mathew solely for our Pine Run "Future Leaders"!!

YOUNG WRITERS WRITING!

Writing and Communication for 21st Century Learners!

Learning to write is a challenging task. Students need to balance purpose, audience, ideas and organization with the mechanics of writing (sentence structure, word choice, spelling). They also need to learn the importance of editing and revising.

That's a lot to think about!

That's why it's so important for kids to start writing as early as possible. In the early elementary grades children write with different genres — descriptive, informative, narrative and persuasive writing — throughout the school year.

We encourage children to:

  • Be creative
  • Use different materials
  • Share writing
  • Write with a friend
  • Make mistakes
  • Persevere
  • Work on one skill at a time
  • Write about what interests them
  • Write to an audience

Have fun!!!

The Parenting Advice You Really Need- from SMARTER PARENTING

Parents read one “good” idea after another and become overwhelmed trying to implement all of them. Exhausted from trying to do everything, some parents start to drown in the ocean of “good” (and sometimes not so good) ideas.

The truth is that there simply isn’t enough time to do every good thing.

The question then becomes…What is essential? What are the core beliefs your children need to learn in order to grow into healthy, happy adults?

Here are the five things SMARTER PARENTING say top the list:

1. Failure is good.

2. Creativity is key.

3. Kindness matters...to yourself and others.

4. Consequences happen.

5. Take chances.
