Earlier this week we had a Masterclass on 'Nursing' and 'City Council Member and Mayor'. We had a great turnout from our students and they asked great questions!
Take a look at our upcoming Masterclasses. Students can sign up for the ones they are interested in on their Student Hub.
Tuesday April 4th. 1:00-2:00 Lifestyle Influencer/Fashion Blogger Ms. Tamela Clarke
Monday April 10th. 1:00-2:00 Career with F.B.I.
Thursday April 13th. 1:00-2:00 Fox 2 Legal Correspondent, Ms.Jehan Crump-Gibson
These in person Masterclasses allow students the opportunity to learn about and ask questions from people who are currently working in the field, and “hear it from the horse's mouth” as they say. The Masterclass series has been a huge hit with our kids. We are so grateful for these dedicated professionals who have voluntarily taken time out of their busy schedules to come in and present to our middle schoolers!
Any students interested in attending a Masterclass needs to reserve their spot on the links on their Student Hub page (also linked at the bottom of this newsletter).
Upcoming PSAT/M-STEP Testing
On April 12, 2023, our 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT test. Our 6th and 7th grade students will not attend school on this day.
All students will take the M-STEP test on April 18 and April 19, 2023.
Here is a brief overview of what the M-STEP is, what it means as well as what it offers from the Department of Education.
In addition, here is a document that was created for parents, discussing your role in helping your student prepare for testing.
Phone Use At School
If you need to make contact with your child during school hours, please contact our main office at (734) 419-2350 and we will get you in touch with them or relay the message.
With your continued support and helping us to enforce the reason for this rule, we will find that we won't have to address this anymore.
Please remember that if students are found breaking this rule, their phone will be confiscated and a parent will have to pick it up. We do not return the phone to the student.
Donations for the School Store
Please contact Caitlin Griffith, at griffithcm@wwcsd.net if you have any possible connections that you would like to discuss. Thank you!

Second Step Curriculum Update
On Second Step Wednesday this week, we covered our third lesson in the Managing Relationships and Social Conflict unit. Here’s the breakdown for each grade:
Grade 6:
Lesson 22 is Considering Multiple Perspectives. In this lesson, students learned how considering other people’s perspectives can help you avoid and resolve conflicts. They learned that having different perspectives is normal, especially when there isn’t a lot of information. A perspective is how someone thinks or feels about something based on experience or personal preference. Perspective-taking is the process of being able to identify and understand another person’s feelings, thoughts, needs, and wants. Students examined an interaction between two people and considered the perspectives of each. This week, students will take a moment at the start of a conflict and think about how the other person is feeling.
Grade 7:
Lesson 22 is Conflicts and Perspectives. Students learned how to listen to and consider someone else’s perspective during a conflict. Jumping to conclusions about another person’s perspective is a common reason that conflicts start, but if we have enough information, we can see situations from the perspectives of others. A perspective is how someone thinks or feels about something based on experience or personal preference. Perspective-taking is the process of being able to identify and understand another person’s feelings, thoughts, needs, and wants. This week, students will notice when they’re jumping to conclusions or assuming that someone has negative intentions, and they’ll try to use perspective-taking to avoid getting into a conflict.
Grade 8:
Lesson 22 is Recognizing Others’ Perspectives. Students learned how to look at a conflict from multiple perspectives so they can keep it from escalating. To understand someone else’s perspective, students can ask themselves:
What would I feel or think if I were them?
What might they want or need?
Do I really know what’s going on for them?
Thinking about the other person’s perspective can help students:
Avoid making assumptions about others
Avoid blaming the other person
Better understand the conflict
This week, if students are in a conflict, they’ll take time to think about the other person’s perspective. They’ll consider what the other person is thinking and feeling, and what they might want and need.
This will be our last Second Step lesson until May 10th due to upcoming breaks, testing, and half days! We can’t wait to wrap up Second Step in May!
