December Newsletter
December 1, 2022
Dear Roughrider Families,
It is hard to believe December is upon us, and we will soon be breaking for the holiday vacation. As we prepare for the winter months, in this newsletter you will find Grand Forks Public School’s procedure for cancellations or postponement. Again this year, we will be using the automated calling system to inform families if school would be delayed or cancelled due to severe weather conditions. This automated call will occur between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
With the start of December comes the end of the fall season and the start of winter season for our extracurricular events. In addition to sports, the Red River Drama Department filled the theater at the end of October with their production "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" and is preparing for “Finding Corey Taylor”, December 9 - 11. The Music Department is also in full swing preparing for their holiday concert on December 15th at 7pm. I hope you have time this winter season to come out and support our students in fine arts and sports. We have many talented students and they love to see supporters in the seats.
December will fly by and soon it will be January and we will begin to host sophomore conferences. Parents and guardians of sophomores will be notified in December regarding their scheduled appointment for conferences in January. All other students will begin registering in February. Counselors will be providing more information as we get closer to the registration dates. For those junior and senior students enrolled in dual credit classes, registration packets have been distributed to students for second semester. Parents, we encourage you to spend some time talking with your child and his/her counselor about appropriate classes for next year. Watch for information that will be coming to your homes about the registration process.
We look forward to working with you during the upcoming registration process. Thank you for your support during the first semester. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns please do not hesitate to call. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kristopher G. Arason
Principal

The German American Partnership Program is back! After a two-year hiatus, our German exchange partners will be traveling back to Grand Forks from the Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium in Remseck am Neckar, Germany. We will be welcoming 21 students and 2 teachers in February for their 3-week stay. Students currently in German are welcome to sign up to host a student and are able to host any year during high school. We will be traveling to Germany in June/July 2023 to stay with our same exchange partners. Students in German are able to travel after their 10th or 11th-grade year. Applications will be available in late fall. There will be upcoming informational meetings about hosting and traveling. For more information now, please visit www.grandforksgapp.org. Information and meeting dates will be shared in class. Parents are also welcome to email Frau Feole for more information.

Influential Factors
One of the most influential factors during a child’s adolescence is maintaining a strong, open relationship with a parent/guardian. When we each create supportive and nurturing environments, children make better decisions. Though it may not always seem like it, children hear concerns, which is why it’s important that parents/guardians discuss the risks of using alcohol and other drugs. How do you start the conversation?
