CHS Viking News

Hello Viking Family!
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year! We are off to a great start at Coeur d'Alene High School. I would like to express it is a privilege to serve as building principal this year. I am excited to work with our strong administrative team, the dedicated teachers and wonderful support staff at CHS. This year Coeur d'Alene High School on Fourth Street will be fifty years old. We are proud to recognize this milestone and celebrate this educational institution that is steeped in pride, tradition and history.
CHS is thankful for our dedicated Viking Volunteers! We wish to express our appreciation and that we simply could not do the business of educating our CHS Vikings without our volunteers. Viking Volunteers showed up en masse during Back to School registration and to the Back to School Barbecue. These volunteers gave up part of their summer to make the arduous process of registration run smoothly and ensured each student received a locker, took pictures for their Student ID among other important requirements. Additionally, with the help of CHS volunteers, we fed approximately 200 families at the New Student Back to School Barbecue. We are appreciative of our Viking Booster Club who donated all the food making the event possible.
We are fortunate to live in a community that deeply cares for kids; thanks for putting effort and time into ensuring a quality experience for all Viking students.
With Gratitude,
Libbi Barrett and the CHS Administrative Team

How To Sign Up To Meet With College Reps And Events/Programs At CHS
Once a college rep sets up a visit with the College and Career Center, a sign up sheet is put on a clipboard located in the College and Career Center. You can then put your name on that sheet if you would like to be called down for the visit. The sheet will have details with the day and time it will take place. You can also see any upcoming visits on the College and Career website and hear about them in the morning announcements.
As well as rep visits being on the website’s calendar, you can find upcoming events/programs. If you ever have questions regarding specifics, head into the College and Career Center for more information!

National College Fair - 11/5/19
The National College Fair will be on November 5th at the Spokane Convention Center. There will be over 100 schools for you to get information from and talk with a rep regarding their school. If you are interested in attending, head to the College and Career Center for a permission slip. Spots on the bus are limited so hurry!
College Applications and More...
If you plan to attend college or a technical school next fall, please begin narrowing your choices down and start looking at their application deadlines, as well as their financial aid and scholarship deadlines. Some schools will have application deadlines as early as November and December.
College Essays
Many colleges require an essay be submitted with your application. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to spend on your essays. This is your chance to share with admissions committees’ information about yourself beyond your transcripts! We have added some new resources to the College and Career Website to assist students with their College Essays. Check it out today to help you get started!
Transcripts
Students may pick up a pink transcript request form in the Counseling Office. Once completed students should return the request form to Lori Humphries in the Counseling Office. Each transcript is $3.00. Transcript requests are processed on Fridays.
Letters of Recommendations
Please be sure to give anyone you are asking for a letter of recommendation 2 weeks’ notice to complete your letter. You may also want to have your Personal College Profile – located in Career Cruising updated and ready to send/give to anyone you ask to write a letter for you. This will help your teacher, coach or community member write a letter that best reflects you.
Are You A Green Dot?
If you want be part of the group that makes campus a friendlier, safer place, sign up for the next Green Dot training! See Mr. James in the counseling office or visit the Safe Passage office in the library to sign up!
Green Dot is a student led movement to prevent bullying, dating violence and sexual assault, which are forms of power-based personal violence otherwise known as Red Dots. Students, Green Dots, are taught to identify "Red Dots" and learn the skills to safely and effectively intervene using the 3 D's (Deligate, Direct, Distract).
Imagine a map of CHS, putting a "red dot" wherever power-based personal violence occurs. Next imagine the same map but Green Dots completely cover any red dots. the more Viking Green Dots we have, means less room for any red dots to exist. Everyone contributing to a kinder and safer campus!
That's what we mean when we say, "Once a Viking, Always a Viking", Vikings look out for one another!
As Green Dots, we like to say, "No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!"
Generosity
Did You Know?
Did you know that Coeur d’Alene High School ranks 2nd highest in the State for meeting College and Career Readiness Benchmarks on SAT MATH 2019 scores when compared to other 5A schoools ? Boise High School leads the state scoring only slightly higher than our students for the 2018-2019 school year. Congratulations to the CHS Math department and to our CHS students for a job well done!
