In 1936 Alan Turing went to Princeton University in America and then came back to England in 1938. He worked in the British cryptanalytic department in secret. When there was the outbreak of the war he took a full time job at the headquarters.He took the lead in a team that designed a machine known as a bombe that successfully decoded German messages. He then became well known. Shortly after the war he started thinking about developing machines to process information.
