Attendance Reminders for Activity Participation
Attendance in school is expected for students taking part in any school-sponsored activity. Students who are absent from school for any part of the day for illness and/or family reasons WILL NOT BE permitted to participate in any meeting, contest, performance, or practice that day.
Any unexcused absence (including a 1st period unexcused absence) prohibits a student from participation that day.
Students with any of the other excused absence may participate if the circumstances warrant and permission is granted by the Activities Director, or in his/her absence, the Principal. Appointments should be made 24 hours in advance.
- Excused absences that are longer than 4 periods of a school day will prohibit a student from participation unless pre-approval is granted by the High school office. (Activities Director, Principal, or High School Secretary)
IMPORTANCE of MIDDLE SCHOOL ELECTIVES
EXPERIENCE
A number of middle school electives provide practical experience that can be useful outside of school. For example, Home Economics focuses on the ability to prepare food and shop efficiently.
PREPARATION
Electives also help prepare our students for high school coursed in a foreign language or computing.
INTERESTS
Taking an interest in musical instruments, computer programming, a sport, or another subject may enhance a child's general interest in education.
CHOICE
The ability to have choice is a powerful tool. This may make the student more receptive to the courses. We all love to have some choices in our lives!
TARGET and MTSS SUPPORT
MTSS support includes our EL, Title One, and Paraprofessionals' support, but this year we have Math Corps also. These teachers and tutors will support our learners during the Target Times and during their Elective classes.
What is Math Corp? These tutors are trained individuals that not only increase the students' test scores but build confidence in the area of math and prepare them for algebra and college readiness.
LIVE SCHOOL
Once given a point, students and parents receive a notification on their device which they can view and see what the teacher gave it to them and why. So far, the program is going very well! Each month we will have a House Party to review the expectations and award the next House! Good luck Houses!
*Below is a picture on our tv screen with the most updated results for the next month. Students see these results live daily.
KIND is the new COOL!
Please see flyer below for more information on becoming a Reading Tutor!
Thank You Fire Fighters!
Amazing Readers!
- MCA scores have gone up.
- Teachers are now like 'mini reading specialists' guided by the IRLA (Literacy Assessment)
- Students receive better feedback from their teachers and giving Power Goals to work on.
Home Reading Coaches are key though! Parents, keep finding time for your child to read two steps at home each night. Two steps equal thirty minutes ~ thanks for making incredible readers in our school!
