Anderson SEL Teacher Support
For Virtually Working With Students
Campus Based Support
*Updated 4/9/2020*
As we prepare to launch our fully online teaching this week, don't forget to check in with your students to see if they have any personal/social/emotional needs that need to be met before they can begin to learn. If you have a student who you are concerned about, here are some ways that you can get campus based support while we are all working off campus during this time.
AISD MODIFIED CRISIS RESPONSE PROTOCOL FOR TEACHERS/NON-COUNSELING STAFF:
If there is a concern for safety during a conference, Teachers will:
- Ask the child if they are safe right now.
- Ask if the parent/ caregiver is home.
If the parent or caregiver (over 18) is home:
- Ask to speak to the parent/caregiver.
- Inform the parent/caregiver of your concern about the child’s safety or at-risk behaviors/ statements.
- Give the parent the Integral Care phone number 512-472-4357. Integral care is like an “urgent care for mental health” and they can do screenings for mental health over the phone.
- If there is a serious safety concern, ask the parent to call 911 and ask for a mental health officer to do a wellness check.
- Call the School Counselor and Principal to share information.
If the parent/caregiver is not home:
- Contact your School Counselor or Principal to see if they are available to talk to the student.
- If there is a serious safety concern, call 911 and ask for a mental health officer to do a wellness check.
If there is a concern for safety, and the technology is disconnected and the student cannot be reached:
- Call AISD dispatch or 911 and ask for a Wellness Check on the student.
Follow up:
- Follow up with the School Counselor and Principal.
- Document in eCST: “Concern reported to School Counselor and Admin.”

WE MUST MASLOW BEFORE WE CAN BLOOM

NURTURE AND STRUCTURE
As educators, the biggest concept that we need to remember is that, during this COVID-19 Pandemic, our students WILL remember the way that they felt during this time. One of the best ways to help our students regulate their emotions is by providing them with a nurturing and positive virtual learning environment. Although teaching wholly online may be new for all of us, the basic pedagogy of teaching is still the same.
NURTURE BY CONNECTING to all of your students using our technology tools. If students let you know that they are having increased anxiety due to this pandemic, our job is to share our calm, not join their chaos. Assure students that there are still a lot of things that are the same even though lots of things may be different right now. Normalize their anxiety by letting them know that we all feel this way and provide them with ideas that they can do to feel less worried.
PROVIDE STRUCTURE and ROUTINE for our students. Help students by organizing their online assignments in a clear and consistent manner. Provide clear and reasonable dates for when assignments are due. High Structure + High Nurture = Felt Safety!
