Coyotes
Did you know that coyotes might be your neighbors? They most likely are, even if you live in a city.
Coyotes are amazing animals. They are wild dogs, similar to wolves. But unlike wolves, they can live near where people live.
People often think that humans moved into coyote territory. That is true in the Great Plains. Coyotes lived there first. Then people moved in. Later coyotes lived there first. Then people moved in. Later coyotes began moving to places where people were already living. Now they roam throughout most of the United States.
In addition, coyotes have proven that they can survive almost anywhere, including the big cities and suburbs. Although they like to eat meat, coyotes can eat many things: sandwiches, grass, garbage, and more. That is why they can live just about anywhere.
Coyotes are smart animals. Being smart is one reason coyotes can live around people. Part of being smart means they usually stay away from humans. However, coyotes are starting to show themselves more. If you see one, remember that it is a wild animal. Stay away from it!
