Knightly Update August 9, 2020
Edition Vol 9 Issue 3
As mentioned earlier this week, the Governing Board voted to continue with virtual learning for the remainder of the first quarter. Based on this decision, there will be some slight changes to the daily learning structure that will be implemented the week of August 17. This information will be shared on Wednesday, August 12. For the coming week, we will follow the structure and guidelines that were distributed previously. We will use this week to continue to ensure students are comfortable with and can access the technology & various features being used, build on the development of a strong virtual community and relations with our students, introduce curriculum, and distribute textbooks.
Also this week, we will be holding a virtual Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, August 13. All teachers will post an introductory video on their teacher website. These videos will share general information about the class, the instructor and the curriculum. Videos will be available for viewing beginning at 6:00 PM, and will remained posted in order for families to view at their convenience. A reminder email, along with a welcome video from administration, will be sent at 6:00 PM, Thursday.
On Friday, an email was sent regarding the distribution of textbooks and student planners. Please ensure that you sign up and register for a time slot in order to pick up your child's materials. Due to safety guidelines and in an effort to streamline processes, families must sign up to come to campus during their selected hour block. Please read the additional information included in this week's update regarding textbook distribution.
Thank you for helping us get the year off to a great start. I have really enjoyed visiting many virtual classes over the past few days and it is wonderful being able to say hello and to see our students - new and returning. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me. Remember to look out for an email from administration on Wednesday and be sure to take the time to watch the Meet the Teacher videos on Thursday. Have a great week.

Knights in the Spotlight
Congratulations to ACP Knights Speech & Debate members Ananya Lakhotia, Delaney Krieger & Yibo Chen. These three were members of a five-person debate team that represented Arizona at the National Speech and Debate Tournament this past June. Participating in World Schools Debate, they advanced successfully through 10 rounds before being eliminated in the in quarter-finals; two rounds short of the championship round. Some of the resolutions they had to argue (either pro or con):
- This House believes that financially-stable adult children should be legally required to support their elderly parents.
- This House supports the Green New Deal.
- This House regrets the narrative that nationalism is a dangerous ideology.
- This House would break up Big Tech.
- This House believes that film awards should be limited to those passing the Bechdel-Wallace test.
- This House believes that former colonial powers should remove all restrictions on immigration for citizens from their former colonies.
- This House regrets the narrative that higher education is essential for success.
- This House supports giving an African nation a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Congratulations on an absolutely outstanding job!!!

Due to online instruction continuing throughout the quarter, we will be distributing textbooks and student agendas to all students attending in person or part-time this week. Freshman will pick up their books and student planner on Tuesday, sophomores on Wednesday, juniors on Thursday, and seniors on Friday.
In order to accommodate for individuals coming to campus to pick up their materials, and in an attempt to streamline the process, we are asking families to sign up and select a block of time to come to the school. Distribution will take place in one-hour blocks of time between the hours of 2:30 & 6:30 PM. It is critical that you sign up on the day assigned to your child's grade level. In the event you are unable to come to the campus on your assigned day, please contact the office, (480) 424-8000. The link to sign up and to select a time is below. Families that have multiple children in attendance, may pick up books for all of their children on the day they pick up materials for their youngest child. Please indicate this by listing the names of all your children on the SignUpGenius. If a student has any outstanding textbooks from prior school years, they will not be permitted to pick up their materials until outstanding books have been returned.
Finally, when you arrive on campus, please ensure you are wearing a mask, following social distancing guidelines, paying attention to campus signage and staff directions. It is important to note that families may arrive at any time during the assigned hour window. It will be appreciated, however, that students/families arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the end of the hour to ensure ample time is available to distribute materials before the start of the next group session. For your convenience, parking will be available in the student, visitor, and faculty lot. Signage will be provided to direct guests to the bookstore and a map is included below for your use as well.

Class of 2021 Senior Pictures
OPTION 1: Schedule an appointment to have your photo taken at the Mesa studio with Lou Coopey before September 1st. (Please see page 2 for more information.)
- To do so, go to www.loucoopey.com then click on the large red banner across the top to book your appointment. To ensure the safety of all seniors we have put in place new COVID protocols for the photo session.
- Social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizing will be required of all customers and staff. All procedures will be as contact-free as possible.
- Dressing rooms, rest rooms and seating areas will be closed to the public.
- Only seniors, six at a time, with appointments will be permitted to enter the studio. No one else may accompany them.
- All studio services beyond the sitting: scheduling, ordering and paying fees will be conducted online.
- A $40 deposit will be collected at the time of scheduling. This, along with a $10 complimentary coupon will be applied to each account, giving each senior a $50 credit toward the purchase of portraits and services. After 30 days, the $10 complimentary credit will expire. The $40 remains on account and can be used for any senior portrait purchase.
- Senior sessions will include 9-14 poses on a variety of backgrounds.
- The studio will not provide the usual loaner jackets, ties, shirts and drapes. Seniors will be required to come wearing the school-prescribed dress for senior portraits.
- All post-sitting contact will be done online, including choosing the yearbook pose, ordering and any payment. Each senior will receive an online access code for their images and $50 credit. • Cap & gown photos for graduation included. They are sanitized on site in commercial dryers between appointments per CDC sanitation requirements.
OPTION 2 (does not include cap & gown): Take senior yearbook photo on campus during School Picture Day (date TBD). For those who do not pick Option 1, we will have an on-campus photo day. This option does not allow for cap & gown photos.
- Students must be dressed professionally when they arrive at school that day. This includes a collared shirt with tie and dress shirts, suit coats, dresses, blouses, or other more formal dress.
- There will be one campus day. If you miss it and want your photo in the yearbook, we refer you back to Option 1.
Seniors may not wear jeans, shorts or t-shirts in their yearbook photo. This is formal attire. No casual attire is permitted. All seniors will take a sitting and standing picture that will both be in the yearbook. Boys must be in business casual or formal attire wearing pants and a button-up shirt. Jacket and tie are optional. Girls may be in slacks, a skirt or a dress no shorter than knee-length. Tops cannot be off the shoulder or spaghetti strap. You may not bring props or pets to your photo session due to the current restrictions of COVID-19.
