Pawsome News
December 6, 2019
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
Happy December! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the bonus snow day! During the snow day, I was able to get outside with my son and play in the snow. We tried to make a snowman but then turned it into a snow stool for him to sit on. During this hectic time of year, it is important to remember the small things that bring joy to our children!
Sara Harvey, Principal
Artist in Residence - Bren Bataclan
We are very excited about the two colorful and happy murals Bren Bataclan created for our school before the Thanksgiving break. The experience was wonderful and students and staff loved having Bren join our Pawsome community for the week. It was amazing to have Bren bring our students and staff's ideas to life as their creations were the inspiration for both murals. Some 4th graders shared that the silly characters made them smile when they walked by them and that they loved the messages of kindness. Similar sentiments were continually expressed by students, parents, and teachers all week long.
If you didn't have a chance to check out these videos before the project, feel free to take peek now.

SERF Thank you to students/families
At our next Community Celebration, SERF will announce the selected student grant! All applicants will be invited on stage to be recognized for their Pawsome ideas. SERF will take photos of the group of applicants and the applicant(s) of the selected project, and will be happy to make those available to families of applicants who are unable to be present.
Please take a look at this short thank you from SERF.
How to Help Your Kids Stay Calm During the Holiday Season
During this busy time of year, we need to remember how all of this excitement can impact our children. I came across this article that suggests several of the strategies we use with students at school such as belly breathing and finger tracing or turkey breathing as the article calls it. These strategies work for adults too!
Are You Ready for Outdoor Recess?
Children should be exposed to fresh air and exercise regularly. Time spent outdoors allows students an opportunity to engage in activities that allow them to relax from the structure of the classroom for a bit.
At Loring we will get outside for recess as much as possible, so please send your child to school with appropriate clothing for outdoor recess (coats, gloves, hats, snowpants/boots). When deciding if we will go outside, we take into account the real feel temperature and conditions. We reference the Child Care Weather Watch chart (see below) and our judgement when making a daily decision. If it is safe for students, we will go outside for recess.
