School Safety and Evacuation
Just like we talk about and practice how to be safe during fire drills, tornado drills or medical emergency drills, Ixonia School is going to practice what to do if we had to evacuate or leave our school in an emergency.
A few reasons that we would possibly have to leave or evacuate our school would be:
A power outage where we had no electricity
Plumbing problems that we couldn’t fix right away
A gas or unsafe chemical leak
An unsafe stranger in our building
On Friday November 17th after lunch, the entire school will practice walking over to our new safety site, the Ixonia Fire Department, so students know the path and understand how to stay safe in the case of a school evacuation. This is going to be done in a calm, orderly fashion with no level of fear or emergency. The walk school take about 30 minutes and will be followed up with a classroom Q/A session. If you have questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Yearling for more information.
Lost and Found
Our collection of hats, coats and sweatshirts is growing - but we know these items belong to someone... is it you?
Baby, it's getting cold outside!
Temperatures are falling - but our students still go outside for recess. In fact, OASD students go outside to play anytime it is above freezing!
Please remember to send jackets, hats and gloves or mittens. Soon, you'll be adding boots and snow pants to that list.
We want all children to stay warm while they get a little fresh air and exercise this winter.
The Giving Tree
This is an opportunity for families who are blessed with so much, to give a little something back to families with a little less.
Here's how it works:
- Stop in the main office and select a gift tag from the tree. Each tag contains a wish item from the list of a family in need.
- If you cannot make it in, send a note with your child and Mrs. Hunter will help them select a tag to bring home.
- Let Mrs. Hunter know which tag you've selected.
- Purchase the item on your tag.
- Bring the item, wrapped (along with the original tag) back to the school by December 1.
The gifts will then be given to the families just in time for the holidays.

Thank you to all of the Ixonia families that make this tradition so special. Every year your generosity shines through and makes the holiday a whole lot brighter for families.
Gingerbread Shop 2017
Mark your calendars!!!
The Gingerbread Shop is a long-standing Ixonia Elementary tradition that the kids LOVE, coming up December 5th-7th, shopping open from 8:30am-4:00pm each day.
The PTO purchases, wraps and sells presents that the students can buy for family and friends at Christmas. Coordinators shop all year to get the best deals so that many items are worth quite a bit, yet we are able to charge only $2 per gift! There is a huge variety of gifts the kids can choose from so there is something for everyone (even your pets!). The children can bring their money to school, purchase gifts for all on their list, and have surprises for the entire family!
We need helpers to set up the shop, assist students in picking out gifts for their loved ones, wrapping and working the check out process.
This is a wonderful tradition for our school and so much fun to see the kids excitement - we hope you can help! We need quite a bit of help to make this happen.
Please sign up below if you can volunteer:

Needed: Little Toys for Imaginative Play
We are always looking for ways to engage students at school - even at recess!
If you are interested in donating old toys that kids could play with during recess, please bring them to the school. Some ideas include wooden building blocks, Duplos (large piece legos), matchbox cars, action figures, etc.
These donations should be items that you aren't expecting back and won't mind if they get broken or lost. We imagine kids are going to play hard with them.
Thank you!
Mission Possible: Slime your principal
Dear Ixonia Families,
We are half way to our playground goal of $40,000, which means we only need a total of $20,000 more. We have around 190 families in the school. So, if each family helped us raise $100, we achieve our goal. If you cannot donate directly, there are ways to get involved: you can donate your time by going to local businesses or family members or neighbors and asking them to donate to our cause.
And now for the challenge: We want to boost our playground fund by $10,000 before the December break. To put this into perspective, if we have 100 families, give $100 and raise $10,000 or more by December 22, we will SLIME MRS YEARLING at an assembly in front of the whole school before the holiday break. But as long as we make it to $10,000 our mission will be accomplished!
Any person who donates $100 or more will receive:
- Tax-deductible donation thank you letter
- Free one-day family pass to the YMCA
- Ixonia Yard Sign
- Name on an acknowledgement plaque
You can donate directly on this link or bring money in an envelope with your name on it.
Click here to donate online to the playground fund
Please share it with your friends and help the PTO achieve the goal of $40,000 to help us build a playground!
Mission Possible: Slime Your Principal
Starts now and goes through December 22nd
Thank you!

Nut-Free Ixonia School
We have many students living with life-threatening food allergies attending our school. In order to keep all kids safe and included, our classrooms and learning spaces continue to be nut-free.
Please be sure you are paying close attention to the labels on items you send to school with your student for snacks or special treats.
- Items cannot contain nuts.
- Items labeled as “may contain nuts” or “processed in a facility with nuts” will also not be permitted, as they could pose the same health risks.
- Items that are prepared at home must be sent in with the labels from all ingredients used.
- Items prepared at a commercial bakery (for example grocery store bakery) are typically not safe because of cross contamination and the use of shared equipment. Exceptions to this would be bakery that is specifically labeled as nut-free. Lofthouse is one example of a particular brand available in many bakery departments that has nut-free options. Again, always check the labels to be sure.
As always, students are allowed to bring nut items in their lunches eaten in the cafeteria.
For more information on food allergies and reading labels, visit www.foodallergy.org
OASD Job Opportunities!
Our school district is always looking for great people to join the team. Here's how you can get started being either a substitute teacher or substitute paraprofessional in the Oconomowoc Area School District.
Ixonia Elementary School
Ixonia's school day runs from 8:40 am - 3:40 pm. Students are encouraged to be at school by 8:30, but not before 8:25 am, as no outdoor supervision is available before that time. If your child will be absent from school, please contact our attendance line at 262-560-8402.
