Each teacher will make an appointment calendar available - either electronically or via paper. The following teachers are doing paper invitations for conferences- Mrs. Mc Duffie, Mrs. Bermudez and Ms. Denison.Mrs. Freedenberg has sent her invitations out via sign up-here is the link: http://signup.com/go/WcdeMYU
REPORT CARD
For report cards, LISD does electronic report cards. If you should desire a paper copy, you will need to go into SKYWARD and check the box for a paper report card. Teachers will not know if you have or have not checked the box in SKYWARD.
What are we learning?
We are working on creating stamina while reading to ourselves, reading to others and working on writing, doing poetry and working on technology. We have gone over some strategies on reading for reading a book and how to hold and read a book. These skills are needed as we move into a workshop environment. When the students have the skill to work independently then the teacher can move into meeting with small groups of students.
We are continuing on focusing on alphabetizing words and studying nouns. We are also working on sequencing stories. We have started regular reading groups. Your child should have reading books in a baggie to read on a nightly basis.
This will be a normal week. We will have a new list of sight words coming home on Monday. The words are : it, no, up, do, in.
Social Studies- We will be working on map skills. Students will need to know use a map key and how to draw a compass rose. With the State Fair being on- get a map from the Fair and talk about how to navigate on it. This would be a great family lesson.
Word Work- We are making a small change. This change will be good. Students will still be grouped by color for their spelling group. They may visit another classroom with a group of students that are doing the same sort on MONDAY and TUESDAY. Then Wednesday and Thursday they will stay with their regular teacher to practice their sorts. On Friday, everyone will have their test for their sort with their spelling teacher. We will be giving any new sorts out this week on Monday. We are still learning how to work the sorts here at school. A note will be attached to the sort letting you know which teacher your child will meet with.
Here are video links showing how to do the sorts.

Math- We are working math routines and exploring numbers 0-10. During this exploration we will work on both addition and subtraction up to 10. We are starting intentional problem solving where we will be working on strategies to solve word problems. Your child will be able to explore math tools. He/she should be able to explain how they are solving the problem. We are also working on learning math routines for math workshop. When the students have mastered the skill to work independently, then the teacher can move into meeting with small groups of students. We will be sending home an IPS problem on Wednesday to work on. It will be due on THURSDAY.
