Principal’s Message
Greetings Mariner Families,
We understand that the conflict in Ukraine will impact many students and families at Mariner. We want our Ukrainian and Russian students, staff, and families to know that we see you and care for you during this time of unrest and crisis. We also realize that many of our students and staff have family and friends currently living in Ukraine and Russia, and our thoughts go out to them as well. Our counselors will be available for students who need support during this difficult and stressful time.
The registration process for the 2022-23 school year begins this week. The online registration window will be open from March 4-18. Our counselors have put together an informational video on the registration process which will be shown in class on March 3rd. In addition, your student’s academic counselor will meet individually with each student sometime between April and June to make sure they are taking the appropriate classes towards graduation.
This morning, Governor Inslee announced a change to the date the statewide indoor mask mandate would lift. Instead of March 21, the statewide mandate – including schools – will lift at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 11. This change is in alignment with announcements this morning by Oregon and California. Beginning Monday, March 14, barring a new requirement from our local health department, masks will become optional in our school buildings. Staff and students will have the choice to wear a mask at school, with the expectation that others’ choices will be respected. One should not make assumptions regarding someone’s beliefs or health status, nor comment on them. Until March 14, masks will continue to be required for all students, staff, and visitors in all Mukilteo School District buildings and on buses. Masks will continue to be provided for those who do not have them.
Lastly, I want to remind you that you can always view your student’s updated grades through Family Access on Qmlativ. If you have any questions about grades that your student cannot answer, please be sure to contact the teacher directly.
Thanks for partnering with us to provide your child with the best education possible!
Sincerely,
Nate DuChesne - Principal

Athletics
Mariner Boys Basketball Makes it to State
Our boys’ basketball team is the only 4A team north of Federal Way to qualify for the Hardwood Classic (state tournament) in the Tacoma Dome. We play Olympia at 3:45 pm on Wednesday, March 2nd.
Here is the tournament bracket https://www.wpanetwork.com/wiaa/brackets/tournament.php?act=view&tournament_id=3456 We want to get as many students down there as possible, so we are taking a couple of rooter buses to the Tacoma on Wednesday.
The first 100 students to bring back their permission slips will have their admission covered by the Blue and Gold Fund (Booster Club). Our band will also be traveling down on Wednesday, and we’ll be having a short pep rally as the boys depart for the game.

Stay Connected!
Information and news about Mariner High School are available in a variety of formats. This year, you will receive a phone message and email from the district if we close or delay school. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you added a text message number in the Blackboard portal https://mukilteoschooldistrict.bbcportal.com/ you would also receive a text message. As usual, school delays or closures will be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.
