WONDERFUL WONDEROOM ACTIVITIES!
BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!
The children visited the Annual World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan, where they explored a plethora of books. They participated in competitions like creative writing and engaged in other learning activities. Under the production of our in-house 'Ados-Pados Club', the kids performed a play on Munshi Premchand’s "Chori", and garnered much appreciation from hundreds of other children and adults alike. The Book Fair was also taken as an opportunity to buy a number of books for the Wonderoom library.
SPACE IS THE LIMIT!
The Wonderoom kids wondered a lot this January! They wondered about the Sun, the Moon, the Earth..Their curiosity drove a discussion on celestial bodies. They actively engaged in an interaction on rotation-revolution of the Earth, distance between Earth and the Sun, etc. They also pondered over questions like- how people go to the moon, and how satellites are launched. Giving their intrique a practical dimension, they created a Rocket launcher with a bottle, tripod stand, flexible pipe, bottle stoppers and a pump, and launched their respective rockets, whilst understanding the importance of the size of bottle, and amount of water in the bottle in launching the rocket.
NEXT STOP: STAR WARS?
How could their scientific curiosity stop in a single activity? So, there came along "The Rotating Flying Saucer”. Here, the kids discussed about constellations, Newton’s law of motion, the implication of a Flying Saucer, and the centre of gravity. They put on their thinking caps for contemplating on concepts like- where the Sun gets so much heat from, how long the light takes to travel from the Sun to the Earth and what fuel it uses!, whether the Sun is solid, gaseous, and so on and so forth.
They made the Flying saucers from Styrofoam plates, straws and coloured tapes. Any guesses as to who will design the next generation Storm-troopers!?
THE POWER OF CREATIVITY!
MASTER OF ALL TRADES!
The children definitely did master the art of creation and recreation, with a number of art and craft workshops. They made paper puppets in the Puppetry workshop, and enthusiastically gave voices to their make-believe characters. They also had an enjoyable time making "Finger Mouses". And of course, the "Jumping Frogs" in the Origami workshop. They interpreted each of these creations in their own distinct ways.
I, ME, MYSELF!
LEADERS FOR TOMORROW!
The children took the ownership of conducting an interactive session on their own. They discussed about their day, their lives, their stories, amidst other topics. After some great rapport formation, a few kids assumed leadership roles in facilitating group discussions on the history of Delhi and the like.
WHEN FRIENDS VISIT..
Volunteers, or as the children call them “Friends”, visited the children to take Guitar and Computer lessons. It was a great learning experience, accompanied by lots of fun!
