PTSO Reminders, Announcements, and Heads up
Box tops! Core 1 class that turns in the most Box Tops will receive free time and technology time on January 26th! And the teacher with the winning class may be receiving a little something, too!
Student/Faculty Basketball Game Fundraiser: February 19th at the end of the day on the pep rally schedule. Students can enter to play on the student team using minerbucks as their raffle tickets (a box specified for this will soon be placed in the cafeteria). The more minerbucks they turn in, the more chances to play! Cost of student admission will be 2$. Students who do not pay to attend will remain in the classroom with one of the teachers on their team/pod. Please start hyping this up! And staff, think of ways you can participate to make it even more exciting!
Goldminer Gala: Our athletic department and PTSO will be collaborating on a fundraiser where all funds will go directly to athletics. We are in need of a FREE and awesome and crowd drawing speaker. Anyone know anyone that knows anyone that's a famous athlete? If so, please contact Mr. Hooven with your ideas! You know, so maybe Cam Newton can come hang out in Miner Country... This will be in conjunction with a sports banquet for all of our student athletes, and this will be held sometime at the end of the school year. More info soon! But those of you with connections... we need you!
Cabarrus County Schools Transfer Process - From Human Resources
(Sidenote - as your Principal, I do ask that if you put your name on this list, please let me know before I see your name on the list. This is simply the professional thing to do.) As Human Resources prepares for the upcoming year, we are requesting that you indicate your interest in returning to Cabarrus County Schools next year, or notify us if you plan to retire or resign. This is also your opportunity to indicate a school preference for involuntary transfers if your school and your position are impacted by allotment changes. You may also use this opportunity to request a voluntary transfer for other reasons. Your preferences will be considered as we plan for next year. This window is open December 18, 2015 through January 31, 2016. Please see email from Glenda Jones dated 12/18 for additional information.
Welcome to our newest staff member!
Ms. Ruhi Brelvi will be joining us in 8th grade EC. Ms. Brelvi is a Cabarrus County Schools' graduate! She also went to UNCC for undergrad and NC State for her graduate degree. She worked at Central Cabarrus High before she went to Malaysia on the Fulbright Scholarship. While in Malaysia, she worked with disadvantaged students to improve their English speaking. Ms. Brelvi just returned from Malaysia, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our Miner Family. Please introduce yourselves as you see her next week. Thank you!
Various Announcements and Reminders
Math teachers - please be sure to sign up for a day to take your students to the Math Lab for an introduction (co-taught with Ms. Brewer). This is a GREAT resource, and this room has been created just for math!! Please take advantage of it! This needs to be done by the end of the semester (your introduction to the Lab).
Please remember that we have a wonderful resource available to our school community now in Mr. Caleb Morgan, our technology assistant and interpreter. Please email him for any needs you have. He is a proud CCS graduate, and he wants to help our school community! Remember, he is part time, and works usually 2-4 Monday-Thursday and all day on Friday.
Literacy credits are a very important part of your licensure renewals! You must have 3.0 literacy credits when renewing.
Your teacher voicemails: Please make sure you have deleted old voicemails. There are several teachers with full mailboxes. Please also be sure you are checking your voicemail daily. We have high expectations for communication with parents, and some parents have reported not receiving phone calls or emails back. Our expectation is that you return all parent communication within 24 hours. (excluding weekends, of course).
Please submit names for the Positive Principal Phone calls! Use the link provided, and I always try to make the calls at the end of the week. Thank you!
