GHMS Celebrates Our Veterans / Theme: Voices of Our Veterans
We hope to honor and serve those who have served our country with a gesture of a family mealtime breakfast. Family meals provide an opportunity for family members to come together, build community and belonging, as well as establish bonds and learn together. We hope we will have many of our community Veterans join us.
Please complete this form if you are a Veteran.
Did you get your PTA Packet? The wish lists have been submitted and we need your help ($$$)!
One Time Donations - only half way to our goal!
- Packets with information about our BIGGEST FUNDRAISER for the year - the ARMCHAIR FUNDRAISER - as well as Bulldog Ice last chance orders, loyalty programs, upcoming Charlotte Checkers event and our community partners came home with every student a few weeks ago. These packets also have an envelope to submit your donation.
- We are ONLY HALF WAY TO OUR GOAL OF $14,000 for our Armchair Fundraiser. What do you need to do? Donate online or send in a check - it's that easy! Plus, 100% of the funds raised through this fundraiser go to the GHMS PTA. Other family members, friends, neighbors, and businesses can also support your student with a contributing or matching donation.
- This is our MAJOR FUNDRAISER FOR THE YEAR and if we don't reach our goal we will have to have another fundraiser later in the year. Please visit our website or see the attached flyer for more details. http://www.ghmspta.org.
- What do the funds raised go towards? Curriculum enhancements including IXL for math as well as Scholastic subscriptions for ELA. It also includes stipends for each grade level, Related Arts and Special Education for necessary purchases to add to their grade/curriculum as well as teacher appreciation luncheons and events and much more. We recently purchased a subscription to BrainPOP. BrainPOP is an online subscription and it covers a large variety of topics including science, social studies, English, math, art, music, and health as well as engineering and technology. There are many online videos, quizzes and interactive games that help teachers reinforce what they discuss in class and check for understanding. Additionally, BrainPOP offers worksheets, graphic organizers, related readings, and even coding projects for each topic. For more information on BrainPOP, please visit https://about.brainpop.com/.
- You could be a winner - We've already had two! Be sure to look for the attached picture on your packet envelope. If your PTA packet has one of these stamps and the words 'You're a winner', please reach out to Carrie Shearin (carrie_shearin@yahoo.com). There are four packets that have this stamp and winners can choose between a $20 gift card to be used for spirit wear or Bulldog Ice for the remainder of the year. You do not have to submit your envelope or purchase anything in order to win.

Club Update
GSA club starts Wednesday, October 23rd
A Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club, typically in a high school or middle school, which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia. (source: gsanetwork)
Mrs. Bleau is the faculty sponsor/supervisor of the club. Her role includes supervising the students who attend the meetings making sure the topics are appropriate to the group’s mission and insuring respectful behavior of all students who are present.
The GHMS GSA Mission Statement:
To have a place where all students can have a place to talk and feel safe.
Meetings will be held on Wednesdays starting October 23rd from 7:35am – 8:00am in Mrs. Jenkinsons room (218) on the 8th grade hall.
