20 Seconds of Courage
Remember that "20 seconds of courage" that Jessica Herrin always talks about? Check out this story that Christina Welch shared with her team a couple of weeks ago about a CNN interview that caught her attention. They were featuring the founder of Spanx, Sara Blakely, and as Christina has long admired her business model, she tuned in.
"Sara shared how other entrepreneurs would ask her how in the world she got Neiman Marcus' attention as the first store to carry her line when she was an unknown. After all, these other entrepreneurs and companies were going to trade shows, hoping the Neiman's buyer would come by their booth. They'd send prototypes and fancy presentations to their offices, hoping that someone would call them back. And Sara, in her naivety, simply answered with what she did: "I picked up the phone and just asked."
And the rest is history. She hopped on a plane to Dallas from Atlanta, took the 15 minutes that the buyer gave her, including a special trip to the bathroom with the buyer to show her how Spanx worked. The buyer was sold and the rest, as they say, is history. Talk about 20 seconds of courage!"
What will you do with your 20 seconds of courage this week?
