What is Tai Chi?
Tai chi is a centuries-old Chinese martial art that descends from qigong, an ancient Chinese discipline that has its roots in traditional Chinese medicine.
What does it consist of?
It involves a series of slow, meditative body movements that were originally designed for self-defense and to promote inner peace and calm.
Health Benefits?
It is believed that tai chi can delay aging and prolong life, lower stress, increase flexibility, strengthen muscles and tendons, and aid in the treatment of heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, digestive disorders, skin diseases, depression, cancer, and many other illnesses. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a good deal of scientific evidence.
What do you wear?
Comfortable and loose-fitting clothing that won't restrict your movements are best.
You may also find tai chi appealing because it's inexpensive.
It requires no special equipment and can be done indoors or out, either alone or in a group.
