Mobilization for War
the US did stuff in preparation, ya know
Propaganda
The Committee of Public Information, spearheaded by George Creel, is formed in order to create a positive image of the United States before they entered the war. They distributed ads en masse to inspire a nationalist attitude in the population, in hopes that it would in turn generate more support for the government's decision to go to war.
Resources
The government anticipated a lack of resources if the United States entered the war, and as such, they bolstered the Food Administration to ensure that the nation would not face a shortage. Led by Herbert Hoover, the Food Administration increased food production in the United States by 25% and successfully made the nation self-sufficient. This progress was aided by the introduction of victory gardens, which encouraged civilians to participate in the production of consumable resources.
Labor
In order to keep up with the production needs for the military in wartime, the government commissioned the National War Labor Board. Headed by William Taft, the Board was designed to maintain peaceful relations between laborers and their employers so as to minimize the number of strikes and any other kind of setback to American production.
Rights
Unfortunately, the government could not afford to take any chances with its civilian population during such a vulnerable period, and as such they enacted the Espionage and Sedition Acts. These acts were intended to root out and eradicate any traitors or spies on American soil, and as a result, citizens' right to free speech was heavily restricted during WWI.
