June 11th, 2020
That's a wrap. The end of the school year is officially upon us. As I have mentioned before this is not the way any of us had envisioned how the school year would end but we have reached the finish line. There have been lessons learned throughout this entire process and I hope everyone is able to take a moment and celebrate this accomplishment. It is well deserved.
Report cards are going to be mailed home the week of June 15th. Remember students will receive a "P" for Passing if they have turned in their work and have been in regular communication with their teachers or an "I" for an Incomplete if they have not turned in their work and have been largely absent from the distant learning program assigned by their teacher.
Our Summer Office Hours through June 26th will be M-Th 9:00-3:00. YCIS will be closed throughout the month of July.
Please make sure checked out library books, text books and chrome books are turned in ASAP.
I want to give special recognition to a couple of YCIS staff members. Michael Buehler is taking his family and moving abroad to the Dominican Republic. Mr. Buehler has been a part of the YCSD for 13 years and will leave an everlasting mark on his students and staff that he has worked with over the years. Good luck on your new adventure!
Ric Stahl is retiring from the district after 15 years. In that time he has taught a variety of subjects at YCIS and YCHS. He also served as head football coach for a number of years. Thank you Mr. Stahl for your service to our district and for your commitment to our students. We are thankful. Best of luck in your retirement.
We were able to send our 8th graders off with a drive through celebration at YCIS. A big "Thank You" to our PTO, especially Jodi Warren, for helping to make this happen. It was a change of pace from a traditional 8th grade promotion but it was unique and meaningful all the same. Congratulations to our 8th Graders! We hope your experience at YCIS sets you up for success in the future.
And with that I want to recognize all of the stakeholders that make YCIS such a great place for our students, especially these last few months. There has to be a partnership to maximize the learning opportunities for our students. Not just in recent months, but throughout the year I have witnessed this and felt this and I am thankful to be a part of this learning community.
Sincerely,
Matt Wiles
