College and Career Center Updates

Dear Catalina Students and Parents,

This week marks the beginning of our 6th annual FAFSA Frenzy at Catalina!

What is the FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been open for almost 2 months. At Catalina, we encourage all our eligible students to complete the FAFSA before they graduate. This application for student aid allows students to accept federal Pell grants (almost $7000/yr.), scholarships, and federally backed student loans to pay for many after high school training and educational opportunities- including universities, colleges, trade schools, beauty/barber colleges, tech school and more.

2022-2023 FAFSA FRENZY!

Starting this week through December 9, Catalina High School is sponsoring our 6th annual FAFSA Frenzy! This is a friendly competition between all of the senior ECON/GOVT classes. The class with the highest percentage of FAFSA completion rates will win the FAFSA Frenzy and their teacher will have to wear a dollar bill costume while teaching!

FAFSA Completion Rates and Prizes

In addition to the class competition, each student who completes the FAFSA will receive a $5.00 gift card to a local fast food restaurant. In addition to this immediate gift, seniors can work together to reach class level milestones. If we meet the below goals, all students who have completed the FAFSA will receive the following:

  • 25% FAFSA Completion Rate: Ice Cream Sunday Bar at Lunch
  • 50% FAFSA Completion Rate: FAFSA Fiesta luncheon
  • 75% FAFSA Completion Rate: Movie and Popcorn in the auditorium
  • 95% FAFSA Completion Rate: Senior Field Trip

Over the next few weeks- students can come to the Catalina College Center during 5th-7th period to get assistance completing their FAFSA’s. Students and parents can be prepared to complete this application by having their social security numbers, parental birthdates, and social security numbers (if applicable) and annual household income. We ask that parents be available to help students collect this information to complete the FAFSA.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns and remember, first you hafta FAFSA!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Miranda
