Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
We have been busy around school! We learned about prefixes and suffixes, how to read for information and make an accurate timeline out of the information, non-fiction text features, determining important information, reviewed subtracting across zeros, and dove into measurement. See below for more specifics within subjects!
Chart Topping in Language Arts
In reading we looked at finding the important information. We also looked at some of the non-fiction text features. We went in depth into learning about timelines. We first watched a video of Martin Luther King Jr. and tried to accurately record that information on a timeline. Then, we later read a short biography about Barack Obama in pairs and underlined in different colors information that we matched with different years. That helped us to be able to determine what was important, what were different events and see them clearly in the different colors, and accurately put the information down correctly and in order on our timeline of his life. We then looked at our information on our own person who made a difference, decided which events were most important to record, and made a timeline about their life.
In reading and writing we have been working on analyzing character traits of characters and people. We looked at differences between character traits, physical traits, and emotions. That led to us writing about our person who made a difference and what character traits they exhibit. We proved their character traits by using evidence based on what they did or said.
Tuning in to Measurement
In measurement we reviewed some tricky subtraction across zeros and then moved on to learning about measurements of length. We measured in both inches and centimeters and compared and contrasted the two forms of measurement. We even stretched our minds by seeing how far we could stretch our gummy worms. We measured them in pairs, recorded their length, and graphed them using a line plot graph.
Next week, we will be measuring how far we can catapult items and then analyze that data and visually show it by using different types of graphs.

People Who Made a Difference Living Wax Museum
This will be the showcase of a project where the students have researched and studied about a person who made a positive difference in the world and changed history. They will be displaying their biographical book that they published about the person, sharing a speech they wrote about their person, and acting as the person (in full costume and all!)
I invite you to reach out to your friends and family to also come. The students feel such a sense of pride in their work when they are complete and they love being able to show all they have learned. Students will be presenting from 9:00-9:55 to anyone who walks by and presses their button in order to allow them to come to life and tell their life story.
We will be in and around our classroom, N5.
