Kim has updated and refined the collection of Covid-related ideas and resources from the last five months of Memos, available here.
A correction in the #4 article in last week's Memo: the author's name is David Saltzman.
Next week's Memo will be a special edition, featuring one item: Kim's summary of Lew's Case, the classic true story, by Barry Jentz and Joan Wofford, of a principal's meetings with a teacher whose issues the leader had long avoided.
This week's quotes and articles come from Education Week, Doug Reeves's website, Dave Stuart Jr.'s website, Education Week Teacher, The Reading Teacher, The Journal of the Learning Sciences, Edutopia, Panorama Education, and Smarter Every Day. Here are the headlines:
- Principles and practices for successful online learning
- African-American students talk about their schools
- Texts that get parents involved in children's vocabulary development
- Improving the quality of preschoolers' conversations
- Why do so many young women see advanced physics as "not for me"?
- Questions for instructional coaches to ask their coachees
- Math apps and online tools
- Preschool books about diverse families
- Back-to-school surveys
- The backwards brain bicycle video
ONE MORE CHANCE TO COMPLETE THE MLDS SURVEY
As you know, MoASSP has partnered with DESE to help coach school administrators through the Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS). A vast amount of federal money (Title I and Title IIA) is used to support MLDS. One of the requirements for using these funds is to collect data on the overall effectiveness of MLDS. If you could spend a few minutes to complete this survey, it would help us with the required annual audit. CLICK HERE to access the survey. The survey closes at the end of the day tomorrow. Thanks in advance for your support of MLDS and MoASSP. Have a great weekend.
Respectfully,
CLARK

Action Alert! Help Pass Emergency COVID-19 Relief Funding
Did you know that it will require at least an additional $1,778,139 to safely reopen the average school district in the next academic year? That’s why NASSP has been hard at work advocating for at least $175 billion in state stabilization funding for K–12 schools across the nation, a number reflected in the Coronavirus Child Care and Education Relief Act. This COVID-19 relief package remains unfinished and Congress is rapidly approaching their August recess—so we need your help! Contact your representatives today and ask them to pass the next relief package that will provide this critical funding for K–12 schools. The email and tweet are already prewritten—all it takes is one simple click to send. Act now!
