BMES Family Weekly Update
Week of March 13-18, 2022
Message from Principal Wagner
March 13, 2022
Good evening BMES Families,
Thank you for your support last week as our students took their spring photos and class photos.
In other news; this week, I was made aware that less than 20% of our families are enrolled in the Free and Reduced Lunch program. Did you know that applying for the Free and Reduced Meals Programs has more benefits than simply food? Filling out the form not only ensures BMES receives certain staffing positions to support students’ education needs, more importantly it allows eligible students to receive waivers or discounts on the following:
- College Application fees
- SAT, ACT and AP testing charges
- Athletics & School fees
- Internet Access
If you can spare 20 minutes, please complete the online application process. A link to the free, online process is located at: https://www.myschoolapps.com/
Lastly, quarter 3 interims for students in grades 3-5 will be emailed to parents through Aspen on Tuesday, March 15. If you need assistance with a parent Aspen account, please reach out to the main office at (757) 867-7439 or by email at nhoward@ycsd.york.va.us.
Have a wonderful evening,
Mrs. Wagner

Free Tutoring
As part of the division's efforts to address unfinished learning in accordance with the ARP Act ESSER III funds, the York County School Division has partnered with FEV Tutor to provide students in grades 3-12 with free, 1:1 online tutoring. In addition to supporting coursework and homework in core subjects such as math, English/Language Arts, science and social studies, FEV Tutor offers support for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.
Along with the on-demand support, FEV Tutor also offers weekly sessions between 7 and 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on weekends so families can select the times that work best for their schedule. To get started with e-tutoring, students should log in to Clever and locate the FEV Tutor app icon to get started. They can then schedule sessions and access live help at any time of the day.
While all support is live and personalized to each student's classes and needs, the program does not involve device cameras or microphones - instead all interactions involve a whiteboard and chat feature. Students will be able to share their screens and upload documents to review with tutors, and tutors only have access to student work provided by the individual student. Once a student is signed up for weekly sessions, FEV Tutor may periodically email families and students (aged 13 and older).
