AMAZING THINGS ARE HAPPENING - Celebrating Student Participation and Learning
How did you feel the last time you were recognized for something? That oh-so-good feeling that goes along with being celebrated, is proven to motivate and inspire further engagement and connections with learning.
It wasn't too long ago that we touched on how we celebrate students here at NP3! Celebrating is happening! One of the beauties of celebrating and recognizing students is that it can be about something seemingly small, yet have a big and lasting effect. Recognition matters. Keep it up NP3!
You Betta Recognize
Celebrate via Contest
This class was learning facts through the use of multiple strategies. The students started with multiple reads of a short passage, with a different purpose per read. This was followed by independent timed writing, a share out of written responses with their table, and an additional opportunity to revisit their written responses. These experiences with the text built up to a competition where students cheered for the winning student on their facts! Holy motivation and celebration!
Celebrate and Validate
This class was working on use of language for a warm up. After students responded independently in their notebooks, students shared various responses with the class. Not only were student responses repeated and restated for validation, their shared responses were also written on the teacher example as a visual. Writing and visually displaying student responses as a class example is a great way to validate students!
Student Work as the Model
This class was studying elements and students were asked to demonstrate their learning by using and interpreting key information of an element in a creative advertisement! The most informative ad would win a spot on the wall-sized periodic table (for display)! This was a great example of using competition for motivation and celebrate student learning!
The video below shows how recognition meets self-awareness!
