Slate Ridge Fall Newsletter
2019-2020
Welcome Slate Ridge Students and Families!
Slate Ridge faculty members extend a warm welcome to our learners and their families as they become part of the Slate Ridge community. We believe that learners in our educational community will be provided with ample opportunities to explore, learn, grow and be challenged in a safe and nurturing environment.
Strong parent partnerships and open communication are essential for student success. We look forward to working with you this year to develop your child’s maximum potential. Also, we encourage your direct and frequent participation in activities at the school to make Slate Ridge a better place for everyone. Remember that you can stay connected through our website, Twitter, and Facebook.

Bus Riders
Car Riders
As always, if your child is a car rider you must get a colored card from the Main Office to be displayed in your car for pick-up, if you forget your card, you must simply come into the office with the appropriate ID and sign the student out. Car rider loop is located in front of the building. This is a no passing zone.
When leaving school property, please exit at the Taylor Road entrance. Vehicles will not be permitted to pass school buses at the back of the building during arrival (7:55-8:05) and dismissal (2:25-2:40).
Please do not drop students off in the parking lot, all car rider students should be dropped off at the curb in the car rider loop to ensure student safety.
Dismissal Changes
Please make sure your child and their teacher are made aware of dismissal plans each day. As always this is our priority to be sure that students are safe and getting home to the appropriate parent or guardian. It is helpful for children to go home in a consistent manner as often as possible. Switching dismissal plans is confusing for kids, however we understand that this happens in our busy lives. Please make every effort to let us know if there are changes as soon as possible. We will NOT be able to accept last minute phone calls as a means of changing a student's transportation.
We MUST have a written letter from the parent or an email from the same email address listed on the student's Emergency Medical Form by 2:10 at the latest.
Student Birthdays/Celebrations
We love to celebrate birthdays and special occasions, however, due to a high number of students who experience food allergies, we are asking families - please do not send in perishable edible items (cupcakes, cookies etc..) to school for these events.
Stickers, pencils, trinkets, etc. are acceptable, and we will happily distribute items while we celebrate. Please check with your child’s teacher if you have any questions. In the event that we are celebrating with food we will send home a list of acceptable items prior to the event. Thank you for keeping our Toucans safe!
