NKC Parents as Teachers

Enrollment Information - - - August 2020

We are excited to welcome your family into Parents as Teachers for the 2020-21 school year!! If you are new to Parents as Teachers we are glad to have you here and if you are a returning family, we are happy to have you join us for another year!

This year is going to look a little different than years past as we welcome everyone into the program virtually but, no matter how or where we are meeting our parent educators are striving to provide the same high-quality connections and support we always have!

To ensure that the health and wellness of families and parent educators remain a top priority, the North Kansas City School District will adhere to all national, state, and local public health guidelines. NKC Schools will continue to work with the health department, Missouri Department of Education, and Parents as Teachers National Center and will promptly notify families of any changes if and when they occur.

As changes are made to the way we offer visits and group connections families will be notified via email and phone. Please keep your phone number and email up to date with your parent educator.

What Will This Year Look Like?

Parent educators starting the year off by meeting with families virtually through video and phone conferencing. These virtual home visits will offer the same high-quality supports and discussions about parenting and child development you have come to expect from Parents as Teachers. Our hope is that as the year progresses and under the guidance of the agencies listed above, we will be able to offer additional ways to creatively carry out "home visits" until we are safely able to meet in homes again.

Parent educators working with you to create fun, educational activities for you and your child to do during the visit using items already in your home. Parent educators may drop off care packages before the visit with supplies for the activity as well, as needed.

Group Connections meeting virtually for the time being. We will be offering more parent education nights than we have in the past, but are working to create some interactive parent-child activities as well.

Developmental screenings will be completed during virtual visits.

A wealth of resources!! We know families have a greater variety of needs right now. Our parent educators are prepared to connect you with supports that will help you meet your family's needs from food and financial assistance to creative ways to give your child new play opportunities at home.

Enrollment Opens August 10th!

Please do not call or text your parent educator to re-enroll.

To create a seamless enrollment process we ask all families re-enroll by either registering online or calling us. Select the form below that is best for your family:

  • Call the Parents as Teachers office at 816-321-5453

If you wish to no longer participate in Parents as Teachers please complete this Exit Form.

We encourage you to sign up as soon as possible to reserve your space. We aim to serve as many families as possible: however, due to funding guidelines, some spaces are limited.

Families that are not immediately matched with a parent educator will be placed on a waitlist. You will be notified via email if you are on the waitlist. Families on the waitlist may receive a developmental screening for each child 3 months old - prekindergarten and are invited to attend all group connections while waiting to be matched with a parent educator.
