Shaw May Community Update
May 2023
Hello Shaw Families,
As we move into the final stretch of the school year, we want to take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families. Our teachers continue to go above and beyond to provide our students with quality instruction while nurturing them along the way.
We also want to thank our support staff, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our school running smoothly. From custodians to bus drivers to office staff, their hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.
To our parents and families, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement in your child's education is vital to their success, and we appreciate all that you do to support our school.
Finally, to our students, we want to say how proud we are of each and every one of you. You have faced challenges with resilience and determination, and your commitment to your education is truly inspiring.
As we approach the end of the school year, let us continue to support one another and finish strong. Together, we can accomplish anything.
As always, your input and support is very important to us. Please know our doors are always open to you. Please do not ever hesitate to contact us at any time.
Regards,
Andrew Tuccio & Erica Roark-Wuerthner (Interim Dean of Students)

Shaw's Got Talent!
We are excited to be holding a Talent Show this year. We know this was done years ago, with much success and we wanted to bring it back! Below is some information about the talent show. Students will be performing their talents on stage in front of their peers (as a school assembly) and then for you (as a night performance).
- Talent acts will have a time limit of 3 minutes or less.
- All acts must be school appropriate and will be approved by the Talent Show committee.
- No lip-syncing acts, unless you are doing it while performing a choreographed dance.
- Practice/approval sessions will be offered during recess.
- There will be a dress rehearsal before the performances. (Date and time to be determined)
- The show will be performed during the school day for Shaw students and staff. (Date TBD)
- The show will also be performed for families on the evening of Thursday, June 15th.
- If we have enough participants we may split the grades and have two shows. In this case, one would be on the evening of Wednesday, June 14th also.
We look forward to seeing the Talent that the Shaw students have to offer!

Choose Love
We are dedicated to providing a welcoming, safe, and equitable school community that is affirming and inclusive. One way we help our students develop their social-emotional learning is through the Choose Love campaign. You can find more information on this brief Choose Love Overview video. They also offer suggestions to bring Choose Love lessons into your home. Click here for more ideas!
Birthday Book Cart
Want to help promote the love of reading for students at Shaw? This year at Shaw we introduced The Birthday Book Cart. Every day after a student has their birthday recognized during morning announcements they get to choose a book they WANT to read and keep from The Birthday Book Cart. The book is then theirs to read as often as they like and share with others. If you would like to support The Birthday Book Cart you can purchase a book from our Amazon Wish List or please feel free to drop off new books or donations to purchase new books at the main office at any time.
