JOURNEYING WITH ST. JOSEPH
When Pope Francis declared the Year of St. Joseph he described him as a beloved father, a tender and loving father, an obedient father, an accepting father, a creatively courageous father, a working father, and a father in the shadows. The pope’s reflections on each descriptor sheds light on the type of father St. Joseph was. WRITE!
- Make a list of 10 reasons why everyone should follow The Golden Rule!
- Use the worksheet below to create a listing of YOUR Golden Rules (the rules you have for yourself based on the ways you want to be treated by others!)
- Make 3 columns on a piece of paper. Label one TIME, one TALENT, and one TREASURE. In each column, list things under that category that you have to give. For example, under time, you might say "I could volunteer on Saturday mornings." Under talent you might say, "I know how to knit, and under treasure you might say: "I can share my allowance." Once you fill in the columns, choose a way to help others that you can do based on the lists you created!

WONDER WITH THE HOLY FAMILY
One of the greatest tasks a parent has is to pass on values to their children. Mary and Joseph worked at doing that – showing Jesus what it meant to truly ‘honor your father and mother’ and all the other commandments. They set an example of love in their family. The truly wonderous thing is that the love they based it on, was the love God shows to his people. The love that God gave to the people of Israel made it back to Jesus through the Holy Family. God first treated others as he hoped to be treated.
Parents – How do you pass on values to your children? How are you a model of God’s love, and how do you see that love come back to you from your child(ren)?
Children – How are you able to honor you father and mother? How do you show that you love them when they are not around?
