Principal's Message
Aloha is a word that many have heard, but often it's misunderstood. Most people think that "Aloha" is a word that means both hello and goodbye. That is not true; the true meaning of Aloha is so much more than that.
In Hawaii, we say "Aloha" when greeting someone and saying goodbye, but that is not literal.
The real meaning of Aloha in Hawaiian is that of Love, Peace, and Compassion. It's the guidelines of how to live – a life of "Aloha" is one when the heart is so full it is overflowing with the ability to influence others around you with your spirit.
We believe these would both be perfect sentiments for sending our promoting 8th graders off to high school. This school year has been rough, and the staff of Joan MacQueen, the students, have been in our hearts from March 13th, 2020, when they went home. We are so happy that they returned, and they will forever be with us as we remember this year. For those reasons, we selected "Aloha" as our promotion theme.
The other reasons are;
COVID has forced the ceremony to be outside on the lawn.
It is going to be hot and Hawaiin gear is cooler than jackets and ties.
They are not graduating; they are promoting so "Aloha," hello to high school, and goodbye to middle school.
This edition of the "Weekly Update" is packed full of information on Promotion. Please be sure to click the Weekly Update link to learn about how you can support our students and the end of the year activities.
Sincerely,
Casey Currigan, Principal
