Sign Up for February Conferences

Lakeview 5K-5th grade conferences have been moved to the following dates and times:

Wednesday, February 24 from 3:30-7:30

Thursday, February 25 from 4:00-8:00

Conferences will be virtual on your teacher's Zoom and each conference slot will be 15 minutes long. If you arrive early, you will be in the teacher's Zoom waiting room until the time of the conference. SMVA students should see the information from your teachers for conferences, which may be on different dates. Lakeview 4K with Ms. Maes may also be at a different time.

Please be sure to choose your child's teacher from the Sign-up Genius list. Scroll across the tabs at the top. The first tab that opens is for Mrs. Zoellner's 5K class. Scroll across the tabs to find the other classroom teachers.

Click here for the link to the Sign-up Genius for conferences. We are going to try and schedule a conference for every single student because we value the chance to talk with you!

School is now 8:30-3:35

School starts at 8:30 a.m. Please have students wake up and leave home early enough to make it to the correct entry door prior to 8:30. Students may actually come into the building at 8:20 and start eating breakfast. No students should ever need to come to the front door if they arrive on time.

Starting Monday, school ends at 3:35 p.m. Please be sure your child knows who is picking him/her up each day. We do not provide after-school supervision and all students need to leave the playground immediately after school.

4K and 5K families may come all the way to their doors for drop-off and pickup IF wearing a mask. All other families are asked to remain at the edge of the blacktop areas and spread out while waiting, but also need a mask when on property.

Please note: The AM 4K school day is still from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and SMVA schedules remain unchanged.

Updated School Calendar

Please look at this updated school calendar (and print it if able). This includes the Wednesday early release dates that start on February 24th. You can always find the calendar on our district website.

Outdoor Recess

Students should always bring boots and snowpants if they hope to leave the blacktop during recess. Please write your child's name in their cold-weather gear, including gloves and hats.

We will go outside for recess anytime the "feels like" temperature is 0 degrees or above. This matches the guidance from the National Weather Service windchill chart. In addition, none of our recesses are over 15 minutes in length this year. We have tried to create three, short recesses this year for each grade level to provide fresh air and movement.

Valentine's Day & Birthdays

We really do not like to make our students sad, especially on days of celebration. Here are some things you need to know:

• Do not send edible birthday treats this year (no cupcakes, cookies, etc). They will not be passed out. I encourage you to instead consider purchasing a book or game for your child's classroom.

• If you choose to send anything for Valentine's Day, we will not consume any food in the classroom. For example, if you send prepackaged candy hearts, we will hand them out and they will be taken home. Do not send anything homemade and do not send anything store-bought that does not come individually pre-packaged.

• If you choose to send any cards or pre-packaged candy for Valentine's, please have your child bring it to school by Wednesday, February 10. Our teachers will quarantine all items for a day and hand them out at the end of school on Thursday, February 11 (since we do not have school on the 12th and Valentine's Day is a Sunday this year).

Masks

Our students are doing a fantastic job with mask wearing. We are so proud of them. The biggest issue is masks that don't fit quite right, often falling down. Check your child's mask. If it is falling below his/her nose, then he/she is probably being asked constantly to pull it up all day. If you need to make a mask smaller or shorter, here is a youtube video with three ideas.

Save the Date - March 4

On Thursday, March 4, our school will host an online "Movement and Mindfulness Night" with a variety of activities for students and families to choose from! Please mark your calendar for this fun event for the entire family. It will be from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and feature some Lakeview staff members as well as people from outside of Lakeview. Stay tuned for more information.

Snow Day Decisions

This the district's plan for snow days, such as the one we had this week:

If there is a short time span, for example an overnight snowstorm, we will take it as a regular snow day. In cases where there is a few days of notice prior to the storm or cold snap and there is time to prepare for it, we will shift to virtual learning for that time period. The biggest determinant will be our ability to prepare for the event.

ROAR Awards

Do you have a Lakeview staff member that you would like to nominate for a ROAR Award? Our PTO graciously recognizes staff members that you nominate and one of the nominations each month receives a gift certificate. Your kind words mean a lot to our staff, so please use this link to submit a ROAR Award.
