Tuesday Visitors
Interns from the High Point University Leadership Academy will be visiting Concord on Tuesday, September 19 and will be observing various classrooms throughout the day. The purpose of this visit is to help future school leaders give meaningful feedback to teachers. Please be advised there could be up to six people observing your class. If you are uncomfortable with this, please notify Mr. Walter by the end of the day on Monday, September 18.
Three Thank Yous
Reminders from this week's faculty meeting
Please remember to turn in social dues if you can! 25$ for certified staff and 15$ for hourly. All social dues go to the following: showers, flowers, and food for meetings! THANK YOU! (Turn in dues to grade level coaches)
Mastery Connect - here are your “go to” peeps - Ms. DP, Ms. Hagle, Ms. McCraw, or Ms. Redmond. Your PLC should be giving a CFA in MC this week or next.
2x10 challenge: spend 2 minutes per day for 10 days in a row talking with an at-risk student about anything she or he wants to talk about. 10th day is Monday, September 25th!
(Just a cool point... the post it note pictured at the end of this newsletter is true feedback from one of OUR students.)
Safety Audits
County inspectors will begin conducting safety audits next week. Please ensure you are wearing your ID badges at all times, locking your doors, and keeping your windows closed. Furthermore, please take a moment to review the safety procedures for all drills (fire, tornado, lockdown, blackout, and evacuation) with your students as the inspectors will be asking students questions. It is important that students understand how they can report problems, such as bullying, and how they can help keep the building safe, such as not letting anyone in through exterior doors. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our kids safe at school!
Important information regarding IEPs
Due to a change in policy over the summer, it's essential that we know that the new CCS expectation for IEP meetings is that all regular education teachers now much stay of the ENTIRE IEP meeting. This is a significant change, but please know it's not our EC teachers' decision. We have to follow the new policy.
IB in Action
This week holds International Day of Peace on September 21. We will create a peace hand banner during Miner Time.
This week you could try exploring different aspects of peace within your content through student inquiry:
- famous peace promoters in history
- countries who have made peaceful resolutions
- the cost of a non-peaceful world
- music arrangements about peace
- artistic representations of peace
- athletic events held around the world to raise awareness for peace
- emotional and physical benefits to a peaceful existence
- words of peace in various languages
- literary pieces on peace
- designing peace
- science and war
- how technology affects world peace
If you attended PD for CCS in August...
This is just a quick reminder that CARE proposals for the August 16th and 17th Connecting and Calibrating for Success professional development sessions will be closing on October 1st. Participants will not be able to register in CARE after this date.
To ensure participants receive credit, they must register for sessions attended by logging into CARE, searching for sessions using the calendar, and then register for each session attended.
Cheer Fundraising
The CMS Minergirls are still raising money for some cheerleaders in need and equipment we were required to purchase this year. Please take a moment to peruse a catalog either in the office workroom or online, or find a Minergirl! If you do it online, use this link:

There will be a limited amount of spots each semester. The course is slated to start in October and will take 6-8 weeks to complete. Attached is a brief overview.
