Overall the team was able to bring the district championship back to Medina Valley beating out the closest competitor by over 50 points. The team now turns to next Friday and Saturday for the regional contest at UTSA.
Tennis Regional Qualifiers
All of our Panthers played extremely well at district yesterday. Most teams made it through to the quarterfinals. Today the Mixed doubles team of Tyler Oberhauser and Allie Tschirhart won first place and the girls doubles team of Megan Gallegos and Taylor DeWitt won second place qualifying them for regionals! What an amazing season tennis is having this year. Regionals will be at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio on April 17-18.

JROTC HAD AN OUTSTANDING INSPECTION
The Texas Air Force 20,009 Junior ROTC shined last week during an intense inspection by Air Force Inspector General, Major Bailey. The all day inspection began with a full Corps assembly in the main gym and a 30-step Drill presentation by the Drill Team.

All aspects of the JROTC program were under review and the cadets performed brilliantly. Seeing the entire corps assembled in the gym was an awe inspiring sight.

The JV boys shattered the competition by a wide margin. District Champs include: 4x100 Team of Kyle Saulter, Christian Flores, Mason Vogel & Carlik Ware; 800m Run Mathew Fleming; 100 & 200m Dash Carlik Ware; 300m Hurdles Grant Snider; Discus Zack Hecker; Long Jump Josh Bazan; High Jump Christian Flores; and Shot Put JJ Marty.
MVHS Model Citizens of the Week
MVHS Model Citizens of the Week are nominated by students and staff. Selection criteria is based on the American Citizenship Awards for students who:
- Participate in school and/or community service
- Show a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and the community
- Display an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility
- Possess strength of character and the courage to do what is right
- Promote citizenship with their school or community through other activities
The American Citizenship Awards criteria are endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Softball
April 2, 2019
In varsity action, Panthers fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 5-0 loss to Southwest on Tuesday. Southwest took the lead on a single in the first inning. Southwest got things started in the first inning when Tamy Martinez singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Alexis Obregon earned the win for Southwest. She allowed only three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 12. Ashley DeCock took the loss for the Panthers. She surrendered five runs and only allowed 4 hits over five and a third innings, striking out four. Trista Miller came in, in the retiring 3 battersMadison Guerrero, Katie Burris, and Christine Tschirhart were the panthers to each manage one hit for the panthers.
JV Softball was victorious over Southwest, 9-4 The panthers pulled away with three runs in the third inning. Panthers then put up three more runs in the fifth inning. Panthers offense in the inning came from doubles by Hannah Huron, A Salazar, and Renslow. Sabrina Tschirhart was on the rubber for the panthers. She lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out 11 and walking one.
April 5, 2019
Saturday the Panthers faced the Harlan Hawks.
Jv blew past the hawks with a 17-0 victory. Madison Haby was recorded as the winning pitcher. Panthers recorded multiple hits including a homer in by Madison Sotelo and Haby.
In varsity action, Trista Miller stuck out 13 and threw a no-hitter against Harlan to secure a win for the panthers 3-0. Offensively, Madison Guerrero led the panthers with 2 hits.
Baseball
April 5, 2019
The Varsity Baseball team traveled to Southwest Legacy Friday night and came home with an 18-4 victory. Dylan Fillinger led the offensive onslaught with 3 hits and 5 RBIs. Adding multiple hits were Mason Doyon, Aaron Sotelo, Charlie Marsh, Garrett Leggitt, and Tannor Bippert. The Panthers racked up 16 hits in the game.
On the mound, Mason Doyon brought home the victory, throwing four innings and giving up only one run

The JV Panthers Baseball Team faced two opponents. On Tuesday the Panthers battled against the Buttons from Central Catholic. Central Catholic built a 10 to 0 lead after 3 innings, but the Panthers kept fighting and mounted a charge late in the game. In the end, the early lead was too much for the Panthers to overcome, and dropped the game 8 to 10

The Panthers faced off against the Titans from Southwest Legacy High School. Jared LaQue lead the Panthers to a 2 to 0 victory. He pitched a complete game, striking out 9 batters. At the plate, Jared went 1 for 2 with an RBI, double, and a run scored.

FFA Update
It’s been a fun and successful weekend at area CDEs in Aggieland! The horse, livestock, and milk quality teams are STATE BOUND! The Medina Valley FFA sends lots of love and appreciation to the transportation dept at Medina Valley for always making us feel first class when we travel!
Poultry judging consisting of Garrison Garza (10th individual), Ainsley Burns, Leksi Martinez, Belle Davis, and Abby Miller placed 6th as a team!
Horse judging consisting of Eileen Zinsmeister (5th individual), Garrett Hoak, Sofia Lozano, Taylor Bendele, and Savana Meyer placed 2nd as a team!
Livestock judging consisting of Case Henrich (2nd individual), Olivia Garza (8th individual), Chesney Vogt, Tristan Zinsmeyer, and Logan Echtle placed 3rd as a team!
And milk quality products consisting of Essence Cummings, Sarah Hernandez, Kayden Faseler, and Faith Pamatian placed 5th as a team!

The livestock, poultry, milk quality, and vet tech teams traveled to Jourdanton today to compete in the South Texas Invitational! The teams placed as follows... the FFA advisors are proud of all teams as they prepare for their spring area contests starting this Saturday! Keep working hard!

Art Show
MVHS hosted its 1st Annual Art Show on Friday, April 5th. The public was able to walk through the Art Gallery and view student artwork "Pictures of Garbage".
Over 120 MVHS Students participate in ACT Testing
Winter Drum Line
The Winter Drum Line placed 6th at the TECA State Championships this past weekend at Calallen High School. The drum line did take 1st place in the Music-Effect caption of the contest.
The JV and Varsity Winter Guards will compete at the TECA North Zone Championships this coming Saturday at Southwest High School.

Southwest Texas Junior College Orientation
SWTJC Orientation at MVHS is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 from 9-11 a.m. This orientation is a requirement for all new/incoming dual credit students. This will be the only orientation offered at MVHS. If a student cannot attend they will have to attend an orientation offered at a different location.
