Request to Change (In-Person or Virtual)
The following is a link for parents/guardians of junior kindergarten through 6th-grade students
that wish to make a change from virtual school to in-person or vice versa for the second
trimester (November 30, 2020).
This link will be open until 4 p.m. on Monday, October 26th. Once this information is received, staff will begin preparing for these changes with mid-November being the target for phase-in/orientation/preparation activities.
The first day of the second trimester is November 30. For families of 7th through 12th grade
students wishing to make a change, a similar form will be shared prior to the beginning of
the second semester as promised.
This link will be open until 4 p.m. on Monday, October 26th.
Just a Few Loose Ends
Halloween is coming and because of COVID, we're going to do things a little bit differently. Your child can wear their costume to school if you wish. Please remember, no bloody, gory, or scary masks. As always, no weapons. We won't have a parade this year and we can't have helpers in the classes for parties. You'll want to check with your child's teacher to see what might be planned.
Does your family need help for the holidays? If so, please let us know. We have programs in place to help provide some ease this coming holiday season for you and your family.
Please respond to this form by Monday, October 26
We only have 25 slots, so that it will be first-come, first-serve.

A Dash of Salt Podcast
Salt is essential to life; it heals; preserves; and adds flavor to life. I'll share my experiences not only as a principal but my other favorite title, dad.

Note From the PTO
Precious Prints Fundraiser
Local business owner and Spencer parent, Emily Alford, of Precious Prints is once again offering Spencer families the opportunity to participate in a holiday ornament/magnet fundraiser that will earn Spencer 25% of sales. Because we cannot hold an after school event to create these ornaments as we did last year, Emily is offering "paint your own" kits of ornaments or magnets that kids can create at home. These make great gifts or could be used for art enrichment on a virtual Wednesday. Not only is this a ton of fun for the kids and an opportunity for them to create memorable gifts for loved ones, it is an opportunity to raise some money for the PTO. Please see the flyer for details and sign up information. The order deadline is November 1.
Halloween Family Fun Night
The PTO is hosting a virtual family fun night on October 29 at 6 pm. Cameron Zvara, comedy magician and entertainer, will perform his virtual show just for Spencer. You will just follow the private link to watch him on YouTube Live. We are encouraging families to wear their costumes to the event for some extra fun! Cameron has performed at our carnival/auction and is incredible. We hope you will join us!
October 29th, 2020 @ 6:00 PM EST. In order to participate & comment during the show, you must be logged into a YouTube account.
Food Drive
Spencer's annual food drive benefitting Bountiful Harvest will run November 2 - 30. The grade earning the most food drive points will earn a small prize. See flyer for details.

Note From the Counselor
Counselor Corner!
Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September visiting classrooms for a social-emotional lesson centered around resiliency and working through challenges. I have also increased visits with individual students needing social-emotional support. I am working hard to add some peer support groups by the end of the month! As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers for referrals for students who are struggling or may need additional support. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact your counselor with any questions or concerns that you may have, and Mrs. Fox or Mrs. McKiddy will do their best to support your child.
