Student Spotlight
Trisha Botcha is an incredible example of what it means to be a student leader at Sartartia Middle School. She is involved in various clubs and activities at school, excels in all of her classes, treats people kindly, and always has a smile on her face. Trisha is a stand out Spanish student and has participated in the Girls Who Code each year she has been at SMS. As a 7th grader, Trisha was awarded the Jag Award for her grade level and she continues to be an examplary student leader as an 8th grader this year.
Staff Spotlight
Andreana Grall has been teaching middle school science for 14 years in Fort Bend ISD, Houston ISD, and Aldine ISD. This is her first year at Sartartia Middle School and she is teaching 8th grade science and serves as the sponsor of Science Olympiad. Mrs. Grall and her husband, Andy, have been married for three and a half years. Andy is a musician and they have a sweet cat named Callie. Mrs. Grall graduated from Stanford University and completed her masters at Lamar University. In her free time, she loves to read and she is part of a book club that has been meeting for 11 years!

Parent Information Night
Course selection parent information night – February 5th in the SMS commons (6/7th grade)/library (8th grade) at 6 pm.
**This meeting will be the only time we have set up to give you details about what courses are being offered next year at SMS/and our feeder HS and help with any course selection questions you may have. We cannot accommodate one on one meetings for all students, so please do your best to attend.
Reminder: 8th grade students need to choose and sign for their endorsement in SKYWARD by Wednesday, February 5th.
*All students now have their course selection worksheets for the 20-21 school year.

No Place for Hate
No Place for Hate
Mrs. McCune is looking for students/parents to serve on this years No Place for Hate committee. The committee will meet once a month to help plan 3 school wide activities to support acceptance by combating bias, bullying and hatred, and creating and maintaining a positive climate here at SMS. Our NEXT MEETING IS February 7th at 8:20 am in Room #316
This year’s Heritage Day is scheduled for Friday, March 6th. We would like for all students to come dressed in attire that represents their culture to celebrate the diversity we have here at SMS. Please be on the lookout for more information from Mrs. McCune directly regarding parent volunteer sign ups J
AVID
We are currently accepting applications from current 6th and 7th graders for the AVID program, Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a college and career readiness system that is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance. We focus on organization, time management, note taking and learning strategies. Learn about the AVID Program here.
AVID is an elective offered at Sartartia. All students interested must complete an application, which can be accessed here. The application closes on February 28th and we will begin student interviews on March 3rd.

PAWS FOR CAUSE - JAG CASH DRIVE
