7 Habits & Launching Leadership Traning

The end of the year is quickly approaching! I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your part in ensuring that we have a "smooth" close to the 2015-2016 school year. I haven't had a chance yet to thoroughly analyze our TRC data, but initial reports are looking good!

I hope that everyone is as excited as I am about our upcoming 7 Habits and Launching Leadership Training on June 8, 9, and 10. I am planning on having a phone conference with our facilitator on Tuesday, May 31 when I return from the Principal's Meeting. I am sure that I will have much more information to relay after that conversation.

Our training will take place at the Jacksonville Youth Center which is located at 804 New Bridge Street directly across the Jacksonville City Hall. It is next door to the Jacksonville Conference Center (locals will remember this as the old Piggly Wiggly). Our training is scheduled to begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. each day. The plan, as of now, is for staff to have an hour lunch off-site. I do recommend that you carpool to help alleviate parking.

Thanks so much Friends and here's to a GREAT end of year!

EVAAS Roster Verification

Please let me know ASAP if you need your roster returned to you. We are down to 4 over claimed students!

A HUGE thanks to everyone for pulling together to get verification complete!

"Kindergarten Graduation"

Friends, please be mindful of information that you send home to parents in regards to end of year activities, especially for Kindergarten. I have recently been overrun with complaints from parents (at the school level and at the County Office level) that we do not have a graduation ceremony for our Kindergarten students. RPS has never had a Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony or activity.

Part of the complaints center around the fact that information sent home states we do not do Kindergarten graduations in order to protect the feelings of students that are not moving on to 1st Grade. Please be mindful of that and remove that verbiage from class or grade level forms. Simply state what your end of year activities are for your class.

Some parents are also upset that they were informed that there is not an awards ceremony for their students either. This may be a situation that SLT may want to discuss next school year.

Please let Mr. Joines if you receive any additional complaints or concerns.

Also, please refer to page 9 in the RPS Staff Handbook. All letters going home to an entire class or grade level need to be approved by an administrator prior to being sent home.

Please keep in mind that the the only official graduation ceremonies that occur in our district are High School Graduations.

Teacher of the Year and Teacher Assistant of the Year

This is the "last call" for nominations from the floor! We will have ballots ready for both teacher and teacher assistant of the year at our staff meeting Wednesday morning!

Please email Joines or Agrue If you would like to nominate a teacher or teacher assistant "from the floor". Please email his/her name and a brief biography of that person. Teacher nominees must have at least 3 full years experience (not including this year) and must have a SPII license.

We will vote on Teacher and Teacher Assistant of the Year at our Staff Meeting on Wednesday, June 1.

Thanks Friends!

Retention Conferences

Agrue will send out the schedule for retention conferences this week. We currently have 27 students scheduled and on the calendar. Please make sure that you are strongly advocating for retention for the student(s) you submitted letters for. As stated previously, there was not a need to fill out the form and submit a student for retention if you are not passionate about their retention.

School Fees

Please continue to collect school fees until the last teacher workday - this includes picture money. Parents need to pay for pictures or return them.
