The Southside Chorus will be performing on Saturday, November 9th at 4:30PM on the Court House steps for Light Up Shelbyville! This is a great family event to attend to kick off the holiday season!

Southside Seeking Coats for Students

With the cold winter weather fast approaching some of our Southside students do not have a warm coat for those cold days. If you have a gently used coat that your student has out grown or you work for a company that would be willing to donate coats to the Southside Family Resource Center for our students please contact Beth Cathcart, Southside FRC at: or you can call 502-633-6082. We want to make the winter season warm for our students!

The third week totals for our Squad Food Drive!

Our third week of our Southside Squad Competition Food Drive is:

  • Strong Squad: 220 items
  • Selfless Squad: 118 items
  • For the Week 3 win: Smart Squad with 272 items

The total food collection for Week 3: 610 items!

Total number of items brought in for the last 3 weeks:

  • Smart: 510
  • Strong: 474
  • Selfless: 253

Smart Squad is the current leader of the 5 week challenge!

For Week 4 the item that is being collected is Box of Cereal Bars (no nuts/peanut butter)! Which Squad will be in the lead after Week 4?

Southside PTO Winter Spirit Wear Shop is open!

The Southside PTO has opened the Southside Spirit Wear Shop again! You can order online or use the flyer that will come home to order. All orders must be turned in by Friday, November 15th. We will not be able to accept any late orders. Orders should be delivered the week of December 9th. The website has options of dri-fit shirts that the paper order form does not, so take a peak!

Southside Food Drive Squad Challenge

The 5 Week Food Drive Squad Challenge! Each week squads will collect a different item to be donated to the Shelby County Backpack Project. Will your squad be the winning squad?

  • Week of November 11th: Box of Cereal Bars (no nuts/peanut butter)
  • Week of November 18th: Box of Snacks (pudding cups, cheese crackers etc.)

Holiday Assistance Information

If you need information or a referral to a community partner for holiday assistance please contact Beth Cathcart at 502-633-6082. You may also stop in the office during school hours (7:30AM-3:00PM) or email me at:

The deadline for referrals from the Southside Family Resource Center is Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Southside will only be referring Southside families to one community partner for assistance. If you have already signed up for assistance you will not be eligible.

The following are a list of programs that provide assistance with holiday gifts that Southside will be referring to:

Mrs. Claus Closet:

Provides new and gently used toys at a FREE Toy Store on December 14th from 9:00am -11:00am at the Church of Latter Day Saints on Mt. Eden Road. Parents can come and select gifts for their children, no income eligibility required.

Simpsonville Baptist Church Christmas Store:

Provides parents with an opportunity to shop for their child’s gifts and pay (on average) 10% of retail. Parents can purchase bikes, toys, clothing, gift cards, and more for their child. The Christmas Store will operate on December 14th, 2019, at the Simpsonville Baptist Church activity building on Hwy 60. Reservations are required for shopping appointments. Parents can request an invitation from their school Family Resource or Youth Services Center. Free stocking stuffers and gift wrapping will be provided.

Saturday, November 2nd * 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Needed for application:

1) ID and document proving Shelby County residency

2) Birth Certificate for each child

All applicants MUST be a LEGAL GUARDIAN possessing ID with their current Shelby County address and one current piece of mail, vehicle registration, or similar document proving current Shelby County residency.

All applicants MUST have BIRTH CERTIFICATE for each child listing guardian as parent or proof of guardianship will be required.
