PUE Panthers Prepare for Solar Eclipse
As many of you have already found out, approved eclipse glasses are hard to come by. Pleasant Union ordered approved eclipse glasses but unfortunately, did not receive the order scheduled for yesterday. We are working closely with the vendor and their shipping company to hopefully have the glasses here in time for the eclipse viewing. If, however our glasses do not arrive in time or if there is adverse weather, we will hold an alternative eclipse activity at 2:30 using the NASA and other online sites to give our students a real time experience. Be sure to review eclipse guidelines in the online end of week reminders.
If our eclipse glasses do arrive in time for our eclipse experience will be outside on the soccer field. Students will begin moving to the field at 2:15 so that we can all experience the eclipse beginning at 2:30. As mentioned in my Sunday Message, student safety for this event is of the utmost importance. It is important to recognize that it is never safe to look directly at the sun’s rays, even when the sun is partially obscured. That being said, ALL Pleasant Union students that will participate in our Solar Eclipse viewing event on Monday, August 21 MUST have a parent signed AND witnessed approval/waiver form to participate. This permission form was sent home yesterday. For Track 3 parents, I am including a link to the form that must be signed and returned to their homeroom teacher on Monday, August 21st OR scanned and emailed to their teacher for their child to participate in the event.
We look forward to the upcoming rare experience but emphasize that each student MUST HAVE A PARENT SIGNED and witnessed WAIVER FORM for them to participate in the event. Students without the form will not be allowed to participate in the event. In addition, if any parents plan to participate in the outside event they will need to bring their own eclipse glasses and must sign and have witnessed our same permission waiver.
For those that are tracked out or will not be able to the event be sure to review the following safe viewing instructions. NASA's How to View the Solar Eclipse Safely provides additional information on safety guidelines.
