These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'respectful'.
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
There is lots to read in this newsletter, we have a lot going at school currently which makes the place a real hive of activity. The Paetoki team are working hard for their businesses and we are looking forward to their market night this coming Thursday from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. We will be running the market in front of the rooms - on the new deck at the senior side, instead of in the school hall. Make sure you bring some cash for this awesome bi-annual event!
The whanau teams have started today to practice the school song and actions for the 'Sing Off' at the end of the term. This is a great way to bring the 2 schools together and have our middle and senior kids role model to the juniors how to be a great 'Vogeltowner'. We are getting to know our school song really well and the new actions help to bring this song to life!
Next week we have our annual school cross country - see the info below. If you have a chance, come up and have a look or have a run! The race starts and finishes on the senior school back field. We encourage whanau to come back on site to join us in this great whanau event!
A reminder we have a 'Teacher Only Day' next Friday ( 9th September) as all our staff are renewing their First Aid certificates. Thanks for your support with this day whanau.
Happy Fathers day to our Dad's on Sunday! Enjoy the day with your whanau!
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,
Mr O and the VS team
MA AKE - LETS GO - TE WERO HAUHAU - THE FRESH AIR CHALLENGE
With the weather warming up, we are going to be part of the New Plymouth school wide 'Fresh Air Challenge' or Te Wero Hauhau.
This is a challenge for our tamariki to come to school each day without using the car - walk, scooter, bike, bus, carpool or hop!
Each morning our Class Reps will ask each class how each of our learners got to school. This will be done for two weeks and the data uploaded each week. We hope to be the winning school in New Plymouth with the most amount of tamariki getting to school in other ways than cars. See the poster below:
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 6, TERM 3
We have had no new cases of covid at Vogeltown this week - a sign that we are not seeing a resurgence in our school and local community. Today marks an important day, as we have now been at school for the longest amount of time in the last two years.
Our average attendance for this week has been at 92.0%, up four percent from last week and we are sitting at 89% for the term. We really would like to get this average up to the magic 90% if we can, we are super close!
Thanks whanau!
WIG WEDNESDAY (& YELLOW DAY)
On Wednesday we are asking all of our tamariki to wear a wig and to wear something yellow to support Child Cancer and the Daffodil Day from last week.
Every week in Aotearoa, three families are told the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer.
The treatment these children undergo often means they need to brave the world with no hair.
You can show your support for these children and their whānau by joining us for Wig Wednesday this September.
Wig Wednesday is a fun day where ordinary Kiwis in schools, businesses and community groups show their support by wearing a wig, or styling a funky hairdo, while raising money for Child Cancer Foundation.
Your efforts will ensure that more kids and whānau impacted by childhood cancer are provided with the essential support they need, every step of the way. Last year, 500 amazing schools, businesses and community groups helped raise over $177,000 for tamariki with cancer and their families on Wig Wednesday.
In 2022, we want to help beat that... but we’ll need your help! The national event date is Wednesday 7 September, 2022. All students please bring a gold coin and hand it into your teacher.
Just get wiggy!
We will be having a school parade and will take photos of every class on Wednesday - it is going to be a great celebration day!
VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
The Home and School Committee have organised the fundraiser for Term 3 - teatowels!! The tea towels will be done in whanau groups (each sibling on the same tea towel) and will represent their whanau through the colour of the teatowel.
This is instead of the annual calendar art work we do. We need all orders in by the end of this term as this gives the organisation enough time to make them and have them back to us to send out for Xmas pressies!
The kids are doing a self portrait (face or whole body) on to the towel with their name underneath. See the poster below for the link to Kindo for all orders.
A 'Heads up' we will be having a school disco! This is the first time we have had one in 3 years! The date is the 27th of September - lock it in, more details will come out next week.
VOGELTOWN SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES - VOTING TIME!
A big thanks to all those parents/caregivers who have voted for our School Board of Trustees members. We are very fortunate to have a number of our community who are willing to help the school on our Board. Please make sure you vote. You can post, or bring in your voting forms to the school office.
LAST DAY TO VOTE IS WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK @ 4pm.
Nga mihi whanau!

YEAR 5 AND 6 CAMP, 2023
Every 2 years, we hold a camp for all our Year 5 and 6 students. Our 2023 camp will be held from Wednesday 22 February to Friday 24 February at Vertical Horizon in Inglewood.
The cost of camp will be confirmed soon, but is likely to be around $150.00 per child. We are part of the Ministry of Education's donation scheme, but would still appreciate donations towards the cost of camp. We will set up a payment scheme on Kindo so that families are able to spread the cost out over the coming months. Cash and EFTPOS payments will also be welcomed.
Our camp cannot function without parent support. If you would like to attend camp as a parent helper, you will need to complete a Police Vetting Form. These can be collected from the Senior Office. We also need to sight one form of photographic ID.
More information about camp will continue to become available over the coming months.
Regards
The Paetoki Team
VOGELTOWN CROSS COUNTRY 2022
A big thanks to Mrs Lash for taking on the PE and health portfolio for Vogeltown School since Miss Fleming left us last term.
The details for the Cross Country day is below, we encourage all parents and caregivers to attend under the orange settings - we even encourage you to join in the run! Every parent/caregiver who runs with their child(ren) will get a point for their whanau!
A big well done to all our Vogeltowners who have been out practising for this event. We do not care whether our learners run or walk (or hop and skip) as long as they get involved in the day in some way - they can take it as seriously as they want.
Check out the organisation for the day below:
LEARNERS CORNER -
A massive congratulations to Pearce Donnelly who has made it in to the Taranaki whanui rugby league team. He has a tournament in Whakatane over the upcoming holidays. Tu Meke Pearce!

A big thanks to our judges - Mrs Anderson, Jathan Jansen (Student judge) and Mr O.

Ka mau to wehi whanau - outstanding!
ENROLMENTS FOR 2023
Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available
from the school office.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period runs from 1 February 2023 to 6 April 2023.
The second enrolment period runs from 24 April 2023 to 30 June 2023.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students
turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely
to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by
16 December 2022. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments
received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt
of out of zone places is Friday 3 February 2023. Application for enrolment for an out of
zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the
school office and off our school website). Applications can be sent via email to
office@vogeltown.school.nz or delivered directly to the school office.
Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2023
should apply by 30th September 2022 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2023
school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the
number of places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with
instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on
Tuesday 7 February 2023.
Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Friday 10 February
2023.
