A Message from the Principal
National Archery in the Schools Program [NASP]
In October we will begin instruction for grades four to eight students, using the NASP. During our physical education classes, all students will receive certified instruction (Coach Vrabel and I teach the class), with a fully equipped indoor range, or Olympic-style archery. In January we have the opportunity to try to qualify for state competition.
Cross-Country Meet
What a day last Friday was on our Zion campus! We hosted our first-ever cross-country meet, with races for both high school and middle school students. Thank you to the many volunteers who made this possible. Also, having the entire school out to cheer on our team was pretty cool. Several of the coaches shared their appreciate and hoped for the opportunity for us to host more meets. To God be the glory.
Welcome to New Students
Since the start of school, we have welcomed several new students to our campus. A very warm welcome to Luke (8th), Eli (4th), Jared (1st), and Scarlett (K). Thanks for joining our Zion community.
Ribbon-cutting Ceremony
Please mark your calendars for Friday afternoon, 22 October at 2 pm for a celebration of our newest additions to the playground!
Covid-19
To date, we have had five students and zero staff who have tested positive. Once again, we are thankful for our face-to-face learning.
All-School Chapel, Field Trips
After October first, we plan to resume in-person chapel, but at least for now, we won’t have families attend yet. Also, we are beginning to have classes enjoy field trip experiences.
Have You Considered Amazon Smile?
If you regularly purchase from Amazon, you can change that up a bit and go to AmazonSmile (same Amazon, just changed to their site that gives back to nonprofits) to make your purchases. Each time you buy from this site, you can specify “Zion Lutheran Church” to receive cash back. Every dollar goes right back to our students. Raised for our organization thus far has been $1,315. Thank you for considering this.
Our promise: Our second century of developing
Christian leaders who engage and excel.
Fall Carnival is BACK!
PTL is thrilled to bring back this beloved annual tradition at Zion. The event will be held Sunday, October 24th from 2-5 p.m. Students may come in costume and enjoy bounce houses, carnival games, hayrides and more. Concessions will be available for purchase and look for a special fundraiser for teachers' classrooms.
It is time for the collection of yearly PTL Dues. In addition to the fundraiser, this donation helps to fund events throughout the year. Each family will be drafted $10 per child with a maximum amount of $25 per family through FACTS in your October statement. Again, no matter the size, no family will be drafted more than $25.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Operation Christmas Child is a servant event where we collect and donate new & unused items for children ages 2-14. The items that are donated are used to create small care packages, about the size of a shoebox, for children and are delivered all across the world. Missionaries then hand out the packages and teach the children all about Jesus. HOW CAN I HELP? We are asking for donations of new/unused items that can fit inside of a shoebox for boys and girls ages 2-14. We will be collecting donations until Friday, October 29th. Please see attached flyer for additional details regarding donations. Students in grades 1-8 are welcome to join us and help pack the care packages on Thursday, November 4th from 3:30-4:15pm.
Jobs Available for Our Growing School
If you have a ready smile and love to serve, we could use more help in our hot lunch program, too. We need staffing for both Mondays and Fridays -with a workday that is 8 am to 2 pm. This is another great opportunity to be part of the life of our school – interacting with the cafeteria staff, the school faculty, and the students.
If interested in a position posted here, contact the school principal, Thomas Wrege – at Thomas.wrege@zionwalburg.org to chat about the aides position, or cafeteria manager Heather Faske at heather.faske@zionwalburg.org, or call the school office at 512.863.5345 for either.
