Our Mission:
Princpal's Message
Hello and welcome to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
While we are not able to all be together on campus, we are excited to have your student with us this year and to partner with you to help each student be successful and have a sense of belonging while in school and ensure they are prepared for life’s adventures upon graduation.
Whether virtual or in person, our mission doesn’t change. We are here to “inspire and challenge active learners to positively impact a changing world”. We want to bring hope to our students and prepare them to make great things happen in our community and throughout the world.
In planning for this fall, we took the experiences from last spring and pursued new ideas to build a learning experience for our students that combines high levels of expectations for students with high levels of support. Examples include:
· Fewer classes at any one time so students can focus their energy on learning.
· A daily Homeroom period so students can connect with peers and a staff member, while also learning about how to navigate MHS in its role as a virtual school.
· Use of technology tools like Google Classroom, Zoom, and YouTube to provide opportunities for learning both live (synchronous learning) and on demand (asynchronous learning)
· Improving communication in the school/classrooms to strengthen the partnership between MHS and households to better support our students.
This newsletter is an example of that improved communication. Our aim is to provide you a weekly newsletter (sent out every Sunday night) of information that includes contact information, highlights any upcoming changes, publicizes events, and informs you of any deadlines you should know. We also hope to have a little fun with some videos, letting you know more about the great people that work here and the amazing things our students and staff are doing. This effort will be addition to sharing information on our website, sending messages in Skyward and via email and posting on the Meridian 505 district social media accounts.
I am so grateful to work at MHS and want each student and family to have a positive experience. Please reach out to me via phone at 360-398-8111 or email at dforbes@meridian.wednet.edu should you have any questions, concerns or want to highlight a positive experience you or your student had at MHS.
Stay healthy, stay safe and Go Trojans!
