All About Charlie
Indirect-
Charlie is a middle aged guy, but he isn't so smart. He has difficulty pronouncing and reading big words and also spelling, for what we call "simple words" but he has trouble spelling.
Direct-
Charlie is 37 years old. He doesn't know how to spell good, for example on his progress reports , page 348 " progris riport 2- martch 6" " He rote somthing down on a paper and I got skared of faling the test. " Those were his words before he got the surgery and after he got it he can spell so much better. Another example is on page 361 " Anyway, now I know I'm getting smarter every day. I know punctuation and I can spell good. I like to look up all the hard words in the dictionary and I remember them. " Charlie has improved in so much in his spelling.
Charlie's thoughts and feelings
Indirect-
In the beginning of the story Charlie feels so bad about himself. He's so negative and isn't so happy about him not being smart. He's so unconfident, he doesn't believe he's the smartest. He is always calling everything dumb, stupid and a lot more.
Direct-
On page 353 " Nothing is happening. I had lots of tests and different kinds of races with Algernon. I hate that mouse . He always beats me. " Thse inkblots are stupid. And those pictures are stupid too. "
Relationships with others
Indirect - Charlie's teacher Miss Kinnian is not only his teacher, its also his friends. He feels better and more comfortable with her.
Direct-
On page 364 Charlie said " I got up the nerve today to ask Miss Kinnian to have dinner with me tomorrow night to celebrate my bonus. "
